He won that damn fight, sucked it up when AJ landed a bomb on him and got that title. He had only 25 days to train. Chad had nearly the same amount of days because we knew about Aldo's injury by June 23 and Chad definitely got his ass in the gym as soon as he heard that (if not before).
I love how Chad and so many folks here come with an arsenal of excuses when in reality one guy won and the other one ate dust. It is what it is.

Dc was already in camp training for bader. Not the same comparison

How did I know by the title thread that this was going to somehow come back to Chad Mendes?! Some of y'all are getting predictable...

yeah right and Mendes was eating chips playing ps laying on his couch for 3 months. Take his words for granted not mine, what did he say? he said he was training, staying in shape all the time. Conor had his own issues too, people trash him saying ''oh his tdd sucked'' well, guess what? he didnt have to train any tdd to fight a guy like Aldo. So if people are going to give the guy the benefit of the doubt for having ''2 weeks'' of training, they might as well admit that Conor had a LOT to lose had he lost that fight. And he had to switch gameplans and work on dat tdd for only 2 weeks as well.

the best part is the media making excuses for chad when they overwhelmingly had chad as the favorite going into the fight.

People need to stop saying this. No. You don't "love how..."

yes i do!!! it makes me laugh. Injured fighters delaying the whole division and instant rematches are things that get me mad but an avalanche of excuses are hilarious to read.

... he didnt have to train any tdd to fight a guy like Aldo. ...

EVERYBODY knows Aldo takes strikers down goofus.

Aldo has better takedown accuracy than Mendes (and Weidman and DC and Cain and Hendricks and Sonnen and Edgar and Mighty Mouse) for fuck's sake.

Aldo is the consummate MMA all-rounder. I mean, Jesus, muay thai isn't his base, he started in grappling. If you're a striker who's facing Aldo and you're not planning on facing takedowns you're a fucking imbecile. And Conor and Kavanagh are not imbeciles. They knew that training in TDD to fight a guy like Aldo is EXACTLY what they had to do.

And you bitch about excuses. :icon_lol:

I'm not on Mendes's side but 26 days is a big difference between 2 weeks. ~1 month you can still train technique & cardio/slowly diet down healthily where as 2 weeks is just plain crash dieting/cutting weight. As somebody else said, DC was also already training. DC himself though did look pretty tired before he got the finish (not as bad as Rumble). In regards to Mendes, according to what I've read he was on a hunting trip when he got the call. Still, IMO Mendes as a 145er should've had enough cardio to last 3 rounds, and from what we've seen from Conor he probably would've pushed Chad's cardio either way.

The truth is always somewhere in the middle. Conor still finished Chad within 3, but I don't think anybody can deny that Chad would've performed better if he had a full camp.

You can't be that stupid to compare Lamas, KZ and Hominick with a guy that is way more talented like Conor. Aldo would never be that retarded to play wressler against a guy that could knock him the fuck out any time. Last time he fought a very decent pure striker was Kenny Florian and he didn't try a single td. The rest were wresslers/boxers like Frankie, Chad and his gameplan was obvious. As for Kz, Lamas and Hominick, he only took them down because he was practically toying with these guys that were far below his level. Also good luck betting on Aldo taking MC Gregor down and keeping him there, fact is that even if he landed a takedown he would hardly cause any damage. Keeping it standing, punching, kicking and kneeing are his bread and butter, why change things now? Everybody knows that if Conor and Aldo fight it will be a stand up war, no other way around. You live in Narnia if you believe that he's gonna go out there and try to take him down like an idiot. He would get ktfo.

I had the same thoughts and intuition in my head.aaaaand low and behold, we were not fooled.

Chad still gassed. Fact is chad was shown to be a superior fighter when he isn't gassed.

More like 18 days. He knew about that injury by June 23rd and that's even exaggerating.
But i somehow agree with you when you say that the truth lies in the middle, of course Chad could have done better, but so would Conor. And crying all over the place, complaining about the outcome of the fight won't change a thing. Conor got things going against him as well. Training camp injuries, a change of gameplan, getting adjusted to a guy that will definitely take you down and with the ability to inflict lots of damage on the ground.....

If you are so sure about having that guy's number, why not shutting your mouth and making your way to the top again?

- DC was getting ready for a fight.

- Mendes had roughly 18 days to train, which is an entire week less.

- Mendes was on vacation when he got the call. Nowhere near training camp shape let alone fight shape.

- DC faught AJ, I was one of the only ones on Sherdog who never bought the hype and got repeatedly bashed for it... I specifically stated that if you force the guy into a couple of scrambles, his Gas Tank hits E faster than an 8 cylinder car.

Flash news: Body kicks hurt and can slow you down too.

ZOMGOSHHHH Conor revolutionized attacking the body!!!!

1 hook kick + 3 jabs to the body = completely deplete an elite fighters gas tank

Move over Pro Boxers and MT specialists, youve been doing it all wrong:icon_chee

Flash news: Body kicks hurt and can slow you down too.

In long fights they do. Chad gassed because he wasn't in fight shape. Denying this is just displaying combat sport ignorance.

You won't find a single other example of body shots gassing someone early in a fight, and there are thousands of videos available.
