Media DC confirms the evolution of MMA

Well the first example seems disingenuous, but yeah he is saying that Kamaru is better than GSP

What's disingenuous about what he said? Everyone saw how Bones/Reyes and Jan/Reyes went. Jan right now is a better LHW than Bones ever was according to his logic. Don't be a pussy and be selective about what you want to accept

On a serious note the average level of a fighter in every division besides HW and maybe LHW is definitely at its highest level now but when you're comparing the top tier elites from the previous era now that isn't the case in any way unless you suck at watching fights which most do including DC (just listen to his commentary)

All the guys in Pride fought a bunch of prowrestlers and were roided out of their minds. Am I doing it right?
Nope, because I specifically referred to the last ten years.

What's hilarious is that your argument from authority is talking post-Pride since Cormier didn't even start fighting until 2009, but you cite MMA from before that time period to try and float your sinking ship of an argument.

Training has improved, how fighters use it is on them. I still think smashing truck tires with a sledgehammer or shovelling sand are eternally viable training methods. So it comes down to individual talent learning from the past and embracing the new, as usual.

I think it is pretty obvious the game has evolved.
People who can’t accept this are just fanboys who are trying to convince themselves that their favorite fighters are still and will always be GOAT.

The nostalgia bias is real here and i say this as a guy who’s all time favorite fighters came from Pride

The heavier divisions have stagnated quite a bit though

The "Sport" may have evolved but the fighters have not. Think about this, Usman was saved from Covington after taking a kick to the stomach and pretending it was a low blow...in the original UFC, Usman would have been fucked because low blows were allowed but the "evolution" of the sport saved his ass. Look at every weight class below HW... All of those guys would have to be facing Miocic, Ngannou and Lewis but the "evolution of the sport" allows them to cut weight and duck bigger competition while giving them the opportunity to boast about being "champions" in irrelevant divisions. Makes for great ratings but we TRUE FIGHT FANS know that these belts are just a "pat on the head for the little guys".

A TRUE evolution of MMA would mean that fighters could face competion of any size and rank and still survive.
Stopped reading at "Usman was saved from Covington". Ain't nobody reading that

Shut your mouth, you glass-jawed rat.

DC is a UFC shill. They are always going to hype up the current guys.

His argument also ignores the fact that past fighters would have access to better training/knowledge if they fought nowadays.

Basically DC just saying the quality of opponents is better now than before. I'd say guys are more well rounded and complete fighters than they were before. Less specialists nowadays. So I guess MMA has evolved even in the past 10 years.

yes its evolved but the old timers birthed these young guys, they grew up watching them and wanting to be like them

It’s his job to say that what else were you expecting ?

The overall talent level is better but not because DC says so. He currently works for the UFC so you can’t take his assertions at face value, he just happens to be right in this case

The most significant actual evolution in the ufc has been the size of weight cuts. Everything else is irrelevant in comparison.

Goes on to say that guys like Usman and Izzy don't need the same amount of title defenses to surpass guys like GSP and Anderson due to their level of opposition.

But GSP and Anderson were confined by the same level the sport was at that their opposition was during that era. It's not like they were guys from the current generation that went back in time and had this training and knowledge from the future, they beat their contemporaries.

Usman and Adesanya's opponents are better now but they themselves are also better now for the same evolutionary reasons so it balances itself out and allows for direct comparisons in accomplishments like title defences.

If GSP were to come back and fight Usman, he's not gonna turn up as the 2010 version of GSP in terms of game plan and tactics, he'll be using the modern understanding of the game just like Usman is currently. The big difference in that scenario would be his aged body that can't be updated to compete at the same standard as Usman's. Well, not with USADA anyway.. ;)

Ofcourse I disagree, setting records are how athletes are remembered, it's not like DC's biased or anything, you know being a UFC shill and all.
