The trend lately has been brawling. Everyone stands up. Look at the LW division of now compared to 10 years ago. Grappling and having a well-rounded skillset has been replaced with negating grappling to be able to stand up and entertain. While HW has some same guys it did 10 to even 15 years ago winning fights, yet they're old.

The only dvisons that havent evolved are heavyweight and light heavy weigh
all the others are

1. Bigger in terms of size(frankie edgar was lightweight and is now dwarfed at bantamweight for example)
2. significantly more skilled
3. Better conditioned even though they cant juice as much as the old era

Explain how Usman is more skilled than GSP please. Same with Volk and Aldo.

Perhaps not skilled, but he has the physical attributes and a decent enough skillset to beat GSP. What Usman does have is better opposition.

Guys are more well rounded than ever before. It's why there is so much standup. The LW strikers all have brown/black belts in BJJ and/or college wrestling backgrounds. There are two top 5 LWs with NCAA championships and KO power.

Even if the sport has evolved immensely I don't even think a present day Usman takes GSP head to head when he was a champ. So DC point is even worse for himself.

He said this because he was trying to push an argument that Usman is the greatest of all time above GSP because the competition now is harder so his wins now matter most than GSP's wins from the past, and thus he is greater.

The reason he is saying this it's because the UFC wants to sell you Usman as the GOAT. Joe Rogan also said he was after he beat Burns. They think Usman will sell more if you call it "the greates welterweight of all time" and both Rogan and Cormier are trying to push this narrative to help the UFC sell him in that way.

However, fighters should be judged by the same metrics as the legends of past if they want to be considered GOATs.

You can't be a GOAT if you haven't cleaned out your division and defended your title many times.
