He's making it sound like a joke, because he thinks that the people that bitch about gear are idiots. Geared lifters always draw analogies between geared lifting and other geared activities in order to defend the evolution of their sport. Whether or not this makes sense in all cases is debateable. In particular, he is obviously insinuating (among other things) that geared lifting (and fucking) is safer, but I have yet to see evidence for increased safety with geared lifting, whereas matters are pretty clear for fucking.
