Dave Herman training as hard as ever

Fuck, didn't this guy learn anything from his ufc stint ? Herman has so much natural athletic ability but doesn't take it too seriously. Why didn't he stick to his wrestling more ? He's performance against Nog was strange, he just stood there with his arm sticking out not even throwing anything.

He's amatuer wrestling career is very unique and speaks of his talents, he is a young HW with lots of experience...but he is chinny, horrible defence, horrible gameplans & doesn't take mma that seriously, after ko'd several times you think he would of waken up but maybe he is more punch drunk then we realize.

This guy has always had such a lazy attitude about training. Honestly, I expected that he'd eventually get serious, but that's clearly not happening. The above poster is right; you'd have expected him to have learned from his brutal losses.

I've been a huge fan since the Rinaldi fight. Listen closely to the audio (preferably with headphones) in his last fight and you can hear me shouting technical advise- which he didn't follow.

Sure he still has loads of potential, too bad he doesn't take training serious. His approach of late is actually quite funny.

Hopefully he does put on noticeable muscle mass, go out there and wrestle Harris.

His fight got moved back to Titan 32 because Harris is injured.

Damnit, you just reminded me how high on Herman I was when he came into the UFC...

So much potential but the dude just doesnt give a shit.

This dude's UFC career may have seriously been one of the worst wastes of raw physical talent in MMA history. He did pretty damn well in the NCAA as a walk-on at Indiana back when they were legit after not even wrestling a full season in high school. Who the hell does that?

May have been one of the hardest short careers in the UFC as well.

Dude beats Olav then gets Struve, Nelson, Big Nog, and Gonzaga. Im sure his lack of will to train hard also had something to do with it, but damn that is a hard road that mostly only top guys would be able to get through.

He looked okay against Struve, was winning until he got clocked...all I remember from the Big Nog fight is how stoned he look during the fight, he had one impressive throw and that was it.

Dude has so much potential but clearly doesn't give a fuck and only fights for some extra cash.

Harris probably KOs/TKOs him.

If Herman got serious, he'd be a ripped, HUGE 205lb'er instead of a lighter HW.

I doubt Harris Ko's him. Was never really impressed with Harris, he's a one dimensional fighter and the one thing he is good at he isn't even "That" good at.

Herman has to be one of the biggest waste of talents in MMA history. The guy has all the physical tools to be great. Just lacks the mental side of the game.

He usually comes in at around 235lb ripped at 6'5"..he never makes 205lb.

Nah...

He's a HW through and through.

I'm guessing two things-
you don't have a lot of experience with weight cutting
and
you feel the same about Cheick Kongo.

I've been a long-time fan of Herman's, but he sure makes it hard to be a fan.

His offbeat, comical way is part of his appeal. The "I only trained a few hours in my garage" stuff worked before he went to the UFC, but he should've abandoned that long ago. It would be OK to claim he doesn't train (sort of an Andy Kauffman routine), but he should secretly be in the gym all the time regardless.

I do think he trains (or used to) a little more than he admits. You don't pull of an omoplata or athletic high kick if you only run or lift. However, he clearly doesn't train enough or with any consistency. And he actually looked better in his pre-UFC fights. Of course, better opponents make unorthodox stuff harder to pull off, unless you train like Jones, Machida or Anderson.

To make matters worse, he took very short-notice fights against veterans like Nelson and Big Nog. Before the Nog fight, he said something like "a 3-week camp is perfect for me." That's probably all he trained between the Nelson and Nog fights.

This just kills me: "I have other stuff going on...I don’t really have a place I can go to spar or anything. I’m not trying to go to a gym everywhere. This is fine.”

Uh, you're in your physical prime and MMA is your job. What else could be more important? Are you writing the next great novel or going to law school on the side? Sheesh.

I have a strange feeling that pee wee might be trolling us.

lol Dave Herman is hilarious.

I sense he's trolling a little bit in this article as well. He's just a very weird guy, don't take everything he says to heart.

I remember him saying all he did was run for the Starnes fight, but I take that as more of a crack at Kalib's infamous running fight than absolute fact.

Either way Dave will probably win even if he's telling the truth. His opponent isn't that great and the guy went 13-0 with all finishes before even joining an MMA gym hahaha
