Dave Herman training as hard as ever

Fuck, didn't this guy learn anything from his ufc stint ? Herman has so much natural athletic ability but doesn't take it too seriously. Why didn't he stick to his wrestling more ? He's performance against Nog was strange, he just stood there with his arm sticking out not even throwing anything.

He's amatuer wrestling career is very unique and speaks of his talents, he is a young HW with lots of experience...but he is chinny, horrible defence, horrible gameplans & doesn't take mma that seriously, after ko'd several times you think he would of waken up but maybe he is more punch drunk then we realize.

Taking the sport highly serious to be a top ranked fighter is a skill to. It's hard to be mentally strong to train as hell every single day.
Dave Herman is missing that part i think.

He's one of the biggest wastes of talent in the history of MMA. he has size, he hits hard and he is talented in MMA but he is a complete nutcase with his choices of training or not training.
For his preparation for Struve he claimed to have fought short guys to get a feeling what it is like to be taller or some shit like that he's insane.
I don't know if he's full of shit but if he isn't then he's one of the biggest wastes of talented I've ever come across.
In a high level gym with real MMA training and coaches who get him to do what he's supposed to he could be a very good HW but at this point I have no sympathy for him he's an idiot

I have a strange feeling that pee wee might be trolling us.

I think he does a bit of trolling, but there's definitely some truth to it. Look at his approach in the Nog fight. That was a winnable fight for him IMO. If he'd protected his face better, he could've won a decision via kicks and throwing Nog down (but not following him to the ground). He looked like he had zero boxing training, whether we're talking MMA boxing or traditional.

I'm guessing that he sporadically goes to the gym (other than for lifting) and works on his unorthodox style a little. But he's definitely one of the least polished fighters to make it into the UFC in years.

I remember back when he was winning in Sengoku that I was hoping Coker would add him to the HWT GP as an alternate or something.

He's also 2-0 in Bellator. I doubt they'd hire him now, though, after his losing streak in the UFC and admittedly weak training regime. It's sad -- he could do very well there if he trained hard.

Hilarious but sad. For the Nelson fight he prepared by jumping on a freaking trampoline. That was his workout. Not even kidding.

The best camp he ever had was that one where he didn't shave and knitted himself a nice hat and scarf.

This dude's UFC career may have seriously been one of the worst wastes of raw physical talent in MMA history. He did pretty damn well in the NCAA as a walk-on at Indiana back when they were legit after not even wrestling a full season in high school. Who the hell does that?

Someone who thinks that same success will follow him in all his other endeavors.

His gameplans are piss poor. His game plan was so bad that I actually question if that fight was fixed for Nog in Brazil. No way any sane person would think of or even attempt to execute that gameplan lol

Yeah, relying on freakish athletic ability and natural skills is like being the kid who does well in school without ever studying...until he finally tackles really difficult subjects...or gets into the real world and finds his style no longer works.

I can relate a lot more to the geeky kid than someone like Herman. But it's similar nonetheless.

lmfao i got excited thinking he actually decided to do a full training camp. i read on mma junkie he drank beer in order to lose his appetite so he can cut weight easier lmao, dude is weird as hell and doesnt train properly and was still ALMOST able make it in the ufc, he could do some damage if he took training serious

The guy should get "meh..." tattooed across his forehead. He seems to have the defense and reflexes of someone about to slip into a coma. He just doesn't seem to have any kind of urgency when he's fighting.

I trained with Dave for a few years at Nashville MMA. Im a heavyweight, and we sparred, etc weekly. Dave is a hilarious guy, but TRULY off in the head. I love the guy, but im being honest when I say he is out there. Ive witnessed him chug beers in the parking lot, prior to training, hide under the cage for 8 hours to drive our coach crazy, he wore a Faith Hill t shirt for one month straight at one point. He hates to train, he is constantly whispering funny stuff in your ear, and asking to turn it down a notch. With all that being said, the dude is a FREAK of nature. Ive witnessed him compete in a grappling tournament, drunk, and do a backflip out of a single leg. Last i heard Dave moved to Colorado, was getting married, and was going to pursue his lifelong dream of the use of legal marijuana LOL. Dave is a really good guy, and I hope he beats up Harris.

Go to about 3:00 Dave, drunk, 2am beats former D1 cornerback in a race..

Thanks for the post and videos. Wow. I knew a guy who was a bit like that in college. He'd been a star athlete in basketball, baseball and football in high school. He'd get drunk and outplay the rest of us in any intramural sport. Once, after consuming enough alcohol to make normal guys pass out, he helped a friend move heavy furniture up and down stairs. But he was still nowhere near Herman's level of athleticism.

Unlike most "crazy" types in MMA (Mayhem, Nick Diaz, Tank Abbott, etc.), Herman doesn't seem to have a dark side. He sounds like he'd never hurt anyone outside of an MMA cage. But his lack of a work ethic is still self-destructive. I wish we could see him after a few years of intense training at a top camp, but I'm afraid that will never happen. If high-profile UFC fights weren't enough to make him train seriously, I don't know what will.
