Dave Grohl Barbecues for 24 Hours to Serve 500 Meals at Los Angeles Homeless Shelters

yes if u are offering please send me some flowers sherbro.
ima still stand by my opinion that DG is virtue signaling and isnt helping in any real capacity. just like meghan and harry who donate to a lot charities arent doing shit either.
What does “any real capacity” mean? I’m sure you’ll accuse me of virtue signaling now for mentioning this, but some years back I worked in substance abuse treatment. I knew full well each day I went to work that I wasn’t going to eradicate addiction itself. The most brilliant minds and foremost medical professionals on earth don’t know or agree on how to do that. There’s literally millions of people suffering from addiction worldwide, with millions of families torn apart by it. I only contributed to helping a few hundred people probably. Did I help “in any real way”?
It sure seemed real to them.

When a family that was crammed into a studio apartment because they’d sold their houses, cars, and whatever else financing rehab after rehab for their son finally sees their son recover, it feels like a big impact to them. When society gets back a productive member, parents get back their son, or a son gets back their father, it feels real to them because it is real.

Is it better to help a person recover from addiction or leave them to suffer?
—Is it better to feed a hungry person or leave them hungry?
—Is it better to provide resources for battered women or leave them to continue being abused?

These aren’t tough philosophical questions, Aristotle.

no i am not gonna accuse u of virtue signaling by providing examples. now if u posted to social media like mike perry when he pulled over to move that turtle from the road - good guy mike perry - then i would.

they are tough philosophical questions especially the second one if u word them differently whereas u deliberately crafted the question a certain way to make it black and white.

a bum asks u for money for food. u give him $10 and he goes and instead buys krokodil which causes him to OD or pcp which causes him to attack someone. u contributed to that.

and again. he's a celebrity. all their actions of altruism should be viewed with a skeptical lens. so should politicians and corporate leaders.

btw. i like tulips or daisys. if ur bf is okay with that ;)

Seems like a waste of good meat but it's Dave's to do what he wants with it

I thought you were my bf now :p
Let’s not fight anymore, baby.

I don’t think it’s wrong to be skeptical of celebs or politicians. It just seems like an unwinnable situation for them.
If a famous person starts speaking publicly about charities they support, are they virtue signaling or are they using their position and status to bring attention to a cause or raise awareness of an issue? There are great charities and causes I didn’t know existed until some sort of celeb mentioned it.

If they donate money, it’s viewed as not enough and selfish.
If they don’t publicize their charity work they’re criticized for not using their status and platform to raise awareness.
If they do publicize their charity work to raise awareness, they’re criticized for alleged virtue signaling.
—Those criticisms often say more about the person doing the criticizing than the celebrity doing the charity work imo.
Get your shit broken into and stolen by tweakers and maybe you'll have a different opinion on whether or not they deserve a hot BBQ meal.
Doesn’t change my opinion at all. Obviously it’s totally understandable to be pissed if someone steals your shit. But we need to work toward reconnecting addicts and not ostracizing or punishing them. Other countries have had far more success fighting addiction than the U.S. has, because our policies are so fucked up and misguided.
Johann Hari has done some great research on this that we’d do well to listen to.
