Dave Grohl Barbecues for 24 Hours to Serve 500 Meals at Los Angeles Homeless Shelters

Probably not the right time or place to be a grumpy old man but 99.9% of these people just waste all their money and steal other people's possessions to shoot up heroin so I get not wanting to bend over backwards to feed them a meal as well.

sherdog is a perfect place to be a grumpy old man sherbro. dont let the haters convince u otherwise

1/2 the folks who are homeless just don't care it's tough to really help them . The other half just rough luck n hard times . They can be helped with temp housing and employment opportunities.

Serving food is a great photo op but not a true help. Temp housing , a burner phone, and a chance at employment is what would help a homeless person who wanted to help themselves.

Cant help anyone who doesn't want it tho

I'm less empathetic for the homeless after one of them tried a strong arm robbery on me of course the cops here didn't do nothing didn't even want to get out his police suv

This is really neat to see.

Off the stage and behind the grill, Dave Grohl continues to rock.

The Foo Fighters lead showed his support for Hope the Mission by barbecuing for 24 hours to feed homeless people in Los Angeles. A representative at the nonprofit confirmed to PEOPLE that the former Nirvana drummer and some friends cooked over 500 meals for three shelters in L.A.

Grohl arrived on Feb. 22 with a massive smoker trailer, which they used to make smoked brisket, ribs, pork butts and sides like coleslaw and barbecue beans. The crew also prepped food out of the kitchen at the Trebek Center, a skating-rink-turned-homeless-shelter that the late Alex Trebek supported.View attachment 971061
Grohl personally paid for all the expenses and barbecued outside during the rain storm that hit California on Wednesday. He took naps in the parking lot while the meat was smoking, according to TMZ.

The rockstar's charitable cooking not only served the community but also celebrated Hope the Mission's "All in for Housing" campaign, which involves the company's CEO Ken Craft and president and CFO Rowan Vansleve running 350 miles from the Las Vegas strip back to Los Angeles.

Always been a fan of Dave growing up but him doing stuff like this makes me like him even more.
Respect

I kind of agree. DG has the resources to found self sustaining centers focused on relieving hunger, yet he held a one day BBQ obviously for social credit.

Then again, the act of giving a hungry person one hearty meal shouldn’t be frowned upon. As any act of kindness shouldn’t be
met with skepticism.

Maybe just this take at face value and see a guy feeding another hungry guy, and that act should be applauded.
Pretty much how I feel about it. But it shouldn’t be charity that we rely upon to feed the homeless. We should rely on social programs. The things our country uses to provide for people are no longer because a certain segment of the population thinks they shouldn’t have to pay much in taxes. You know who I’m talking about.

Inuits.

J/k. It’s not Inuits.

At least ot looks like he's actually participating in cooking it rather than just virtue signaling I applaud him.

I mean… even if he didn’t cook it, he still paid for it.

Listen, it may be just a temporary band aid but at least it’s something. My biggest issue is you are giving a bunch of homeless people that live on the street in boxes and tents heavy smoked meats and bbq. You know where that is ending up.
On another note, when is the government going to stop throwing money at nonsense and invest in real mental health facilities and sustainable homeless facilities and rehabs? Have a Hospital converted. One floor for rehab, one for mental health, one for homeless families, one for homeless solos, one for concrete resources and job placement and reintroduction to society. One for education. Instead they legalize shoplifting, create safe spaces to openly do drugs, and buy out hotels for non citizens.

pay for his help to do it and not advertise his "good deeds"

meet and collaborate with the 100+ powerful connections he most certainly has and pool a portion of their money together in a joint venture to clean up their backyard and create positive permanent long lasting change.

-clearly he enjoys smoking meats as a hobby so why pay someone else to do his hobby?

-the second half of this rant is based on an assumption that Dave doesn’t involve himself in other forms of community service and charity. You don’t know this to be true at all.

-you’re implying Dave personally called TMZ to come to skid row to advertise this. Another baseless assumption.

If you have to assume this much to justify your outrage maybe there isn’t actually anything to be mad about in reality.

This is so true homeless people are the hardest to help cause they don't want it. Feeding them is not helping them in any meaniful way. I stopped helping homeless years ago and now volunteer at old folks homes and foster centers instead. Much better use of everyone's time.

we make assumptions constantly on a variety of different things.

many detract from the "altruistic" actions of meaghan and harry. are they not allowed to call shenanigans without being called douchebags for not agreeing with the mass opinion?

he's doing something he likes to do, it helps very little but converts to gains in a social sense for his brand.

i am a cynic and can have cynical views of DG. yet expressing them gets people angry at me. whatever that's fine. i am consistent in my views/dislike on celebrity culture/elite and their "altruistic" actions. maybe id give JCVD a pass though.

but people i think rightfully had a claim that trump visiting east palestine was a political move. but celebrity trash is insulated from such criticism?

if bezos bought 10,000 homeless people a sandwich while he was out i doubt people would be saying "what a great guy". and i think more would say "hey this guy can do so much more with his sphere of influence this is just PR"

if people dont like JCVD or jackie chan on here i dont think they are douchebags.

most helping actions probably have a bit of selfishness to them and its an interesting area to explore, as well as the fierce loyalty people develop to brands and various figures, as well as the cynical views others develop to certain people and groups.

The real question is… where did he get all that meat and ribs to smoke in the first place. He had a fresh supply on location… Soylent BBQ!!!

Not to mention many have serious mental health issues. They need meds, or more importantly, they need to actually take their meds before any fixing can even happen.

whatever mod did it clearly doesnt know how to moderate and shouldnt be a mod. its all faceless actions too.

oh but i dont want to thread derail

DG is an amazing holy being. no one should question his actions or that of any celebrity because what that really means is the poster is probably a horrible human being durrrr. right @BFoe - what else do u want to tell me because i spoke unfavorably of ur celebrity crush DG?

the cult of personality on here for some celebrities is very strong.

DG got social credit for his actions. sure he fed homeless people that day. sure he probably to a certain degree did it to want to help. but feeding them is in no way going to fix anything.

his net worth is 300 mil
even if this cost him 20k that amounts to .006% of his resources.
yet the act was worth it because look how well insulated he's become from criticism.
Are you still worked up about this? Should I buy you flowers and make it up to you? ;) For the record, I don’t blame mods for deleting those last couple posts of ours, they were pretty unnecessary.
I don’t want to spend a lot of time on this so I’m gonna bullet point.
  • Anyone on the Dog who knows me, knows I loathe celebrity culture, and I have no social media accounts (unless you count Sherdog). I don’t follow pop culture at all. Calling someone my celebrity crush is laughable.
  • If Grohl did a bunch of look-at-me posts about it, then you could call it virtue signaling. But TMZ reported it like they do with all types of celeb shit. Hardly his fault.
  • Do you hear yourself right now? “You may have fed 500 people with your own time, effort, and money, but you’ll never solve all homelessness Dave Grohl! Mwuahahaha!” What is wrong with you? It sounds petty, bitter, and insecure.
Look: anyone who donates to a charity, or volunteers, or works in social work (I say this from experience) knows full well we aren’t going to solve the entire problem of homelessness/addiction/domestic abuse/whatever. People try to help where they can.

A quick internet search tells me that Dave Grohl supports 16 different charities, and has for years.
If you didn’t know that, you accuse him of hoarding his wealth.
If you did know that because it was widely reported, you’d accuse him of virtue signaling.

Fake news
The article header implied he bbq straight for 24 hours, but then it details he took various naps across that period!
