Well it's funny because I'm always preaching this shit to people that I coach in WLing. Controlled aggression and so forth.
I feel like, for the longest time, I've just relied on getting angry and going as hard as I could to make lifts. Above 85% I rarely "felt" anything. Now that I tone it down a bit I can pick up on technical inconsistencies a bit more at heavier weights.
I've also found that the amount of kill-face that I can have on tap is a bit more intense when I don't rely on it so much.
For whatever reason I've greatly separated the training mentalities between PLing and WLing. Granted there are considerable differences but there are also similarities that I need to develop an appreciation for.
The point was reinforced recently when I watched a video of Kyle taking 490x2 with next to zero give a shit. He's clearly focused and so forth but just before the lift he seems to be pretty casual and relaxed.
And Kyle can be pretty intense. Didn't he curse at the bar or something ? I seem to recall him going batshit before a Deadlift.
