Oh, and sheiko 31 is a bitch. The suggested rest intervals left me breathless for a while.
Good luck with your goals!

Where do you get these wonderful things?

Thanks man.

Yeah 31 is definitely challenging so far. Tomorrow looks fun. Heavy-ish squat doubles. Right now I feel good so maybe I can get a small rep PR or something.

Happy birfday. 27 ? Um. I'm shocked.

Why? Do I seem older?

Why? Do I seem older?

A little bit, yes. For some reason I thought you were in your early to mid-thirties. I just figured you were in the service throughout most of your twenties, sir.

Happy birthday man!... not gonna lie, I thought you were a bit older as well haha.

---Crappy day today. Overall. Tight schedule and skimping on recovery yesterday, if I had to guess. Everything felt a little off, tight, whine, bitch, moan.

--Squats were very slow and all over the place. Depth was inconsistent and for whatever reason I wasn't sitting back well. I was hoping to feel good enough for an easy rep PR but given how ugly these were I didn't think it was the best idea. The second round of squatting is the heaviest I've gone without wraps in a good while. Certainly at that volume. Other than the very last rep looking like I was underwater I liked these sets. So that's something positive.

--Never really got my rhythm benching. I was pressed for time and just hit a pretty easy rep pr of 235x6 and then doubles in place of the 6x2. I'd really like to get 80% for a set of eight at some point.

--But as far as "bad days" go, I think this is pretty good.

--My AM weight is around 174-5 right now.

---Very physical at work today. Lots of roof time. I came into training feeling pretty baked. So I was pretty surprised when training went as well as it did.

--Benching felt just great today. Tight, easy set ups. No balance issues. Pretty consistent up to 90%. I had been thinking about 265x3 all day today so I was feeling good and went for it. It's pretty ugly but I'm glad I was able to sort of grind them out. It might seem strange but I've never really attempted limit-weight rep-PRs in the bench before. Generally in my lifting history my squat and deadlift would hit 1rm PRs shortly after a strong rep PR. So it will be interesting to see if my bench is similar.

--Squatting was not so great. I think this had more to do with fatigue than anything else. Just couldn't get my timing down. Oh well.

--Oh and this might be worth noting on the bench PR video. The guy who unracks and spots me is both the owner of the gym and one of my long standing PT clients. He was hanging around after his session and volunteered a spot. He's a high energy guy so it was actually pretty fun. He's also a 420# bencher. So when I hit the second rep I really didn't think I had another one in there if I'm being honest. But then I thought about how many times I'd be called a little bitch for the next week.

--I was supposed to do GM's as well but my left ham was feeling weird so I decided against it. Which is frustrating because I like GM's but this makes the second time it's hurt again after doing them. Not exactly sure how I'm going to address that.

---Really bad pressure headache tonight. Definitely added some extra degree of challenge to the session.

--Deficit pulls were smooth and easy. I started to run out of steam by the time I got to the top set of floor reps though. I definitely felt stronger pulling this weight than I have recently but I'm still not happy with how I look/feel above 80%. You can see in the last two sets it gets pretty ugly.

--Left leg, inside, hammy really painful tonight. I think it's something minor that started earlier in the week on a roof. It was particularly steep and we were on it a long time. I didn't pay it much mind then but it makes sense. Anytime something weird happens with that ankle the knee starts to hurt. I don't think it's anything too serious but worth paying attention to.

--Benching felt surprisingly good. I thought after that tough set the other day I'd have some lingering aches/pains/weaknesses but the pauses were strong and smooth and everything felt fast. I think I'm finally start to understand what some people mean by "pulling the bar into the chest".

--I really need to try and move training to earlier in the day. This getting home at 1030 and eating until midnight wears.

--BW At 176.5 for four mornings in a row. I feel..... powerful.

Strict hammer curling 40's for 5x8's. Getting ready for this curl competition bitches.

---Squatting felt great so I decided to chase numbers. This was definitely ego driven. I just don't have the time for this mother fuckin squat to stay so far behind in my total. I feel I should be squatting 440 right now.
Technically something was weird about my rhythm today though. In the reps. I felt way more vertical than usual and as a result even on reps that felt strong and easy I'd come forward. Weird.

--Incline was odd to set up for. It's been a while, I think. I may have sand bagged a bit. I'm not sure.

--Second round of squatting was done in about 9-11 minutes. Which is moving at a clip, for me.

--Body is feeling pretty beat up in general. Lots of odd aches and pains. The hamstring is acting weird. Responding well to compression though. #31 is beating me up so far. I'm enjoying it but it's taxing. I think I'll be going to another round of #29 to back off a bit. That or #37. Haven't done it but Cratos said it's pretty chill as well. I'll stew on it over the next couple of weeks.

Notes from the diet side of things for people into that stuff:

Average AM weight this week 175.14. Pretty happy with that. Up 1# and some change, on average. The heaviest AM weight this week was 177.

Right now I'm eating heavy in the evening almost every day. Certainly on days that I worked outside or did any time on the bike.

I haven't had to get as detailed as counting calories/macros just yet. I've just added some extra items here and there. Pretty much going by feel but if it looks like I need to be more dialed in I feel I'm prepared for that.

Eating 5 cinnamon rolls after training is pretty nice. I have to admit.

Solid squatting up this bitch.

---Rough day. Very physical installation at work. By the time I did my p/t clients I had no energy left. Pounded an above average amount of coffee but no luck. Everything felt slow and heavy. It was one of those sessions where you're just happy with completion.

--Other than the above benching felt okay. I was able to consistently feel my groove and identify when it was off. So, that's a positive take away.

--Since I felt like ass I didn't do the timed intervals with the squats. I just kept things brisk. The whole thing took about 17 minutes. It was rugged but much easier than last time.

--Left knee acting a little weird. I sort of expected something with the type of work I had to do today combined with the high rep squats. It's not too bad.

---So sort of meh day in the gym. I was a little smoked out from work but not enough that it should have drug me down so much. Honestly my recovery yesterday was shit. If I had to pick a cause. I have found with Sheiko that I have to be more mindful of how well I'm recovering throughout the week.

--This is the heaviest I've paused at the knee. It's weird. Very difficult to be accurate. Also my hands were killing me. Probably the worst it's been. I'm not sure what else to do for them at this point. I'm beginning to think it's a grip issue. Maybe the reason it's digging to badly is that I'm losing my grip. It's hard to be sure.

--Benching was done very quickly. The backside was actually pretty rugged. Lost a good bit of speed but felt very consistent and smooth throughout. I really like these higher rep days. I tend to always find something in my set-up or execution that I can tighten up.

--So, and this might sound ridiculous, but I didn't really think of the pulls from blocks as deadlifts but more like a posterior dominant assistance movement. I might not be communicating the difference clearly but basically I wasn't trying to replicate my deadlift technique so much as I was just trying to shove my hips forward.

--My pull has felt like the slowest developer thusfar. Even though I recently(ish) hit that +10 pr I just don't have a ton of confidence in my consistency right now. So I wanted something extra out of the session. Hence the small rep pr. It felt pretty good. The fourth got away from me a bit which took some steam out of the upper back but the fifth felt fine.

--Hamstring felt great. Could be bullshit but I've sleeping in compression pants and I feel like it's helping my legs.

EDIT: If you happen to be a regular reader of this particular log you'll note I normally do reverse band DL's instead of pulls from blocks. I'm just not generally a fan of them. But tonight the set up was already there and I was being lazy. Terrible reasoning, I know. Maybe I'll do these for the next couple of cycles and just see if I get anything out of it. Not sure I'm happy with the height though. Maybe a touch lower.

Great DL session. How well are you recovering from all of this volume? I'm curious, because WC loves Sheiko, besides her hip giving her issues, and she's losing fat and building muscle so fast. It's freaky. Her metabolism is off the charts too, eating everything in sight! Are you experiencing anything similar? I'd like to someday try Sheiko, but with my track record with recovery I doubt I could handle it.

Thanks buddy.

Well to be honest I'm not sure if my experience will be overly helpful in that department because my day-time gig is pretty physical. I'm not sure how much extra that may or may not be taking out of me.

That being said as long as I do all my normal stuff like 8hrs sleep, food, rolling, epsom baths, etc I feel pretty okay. Right now is the most beat up I've felt and it's not that bad really. I do feel I'll need to back off here soon to maintain progress but that's another reason the "easier" programs exist.

Food has been the biggest thing. It's pretty good timing that this cycle ramped up as I started to try and raise my training weight. All the extra midnight cinammon rolls are helping.

Sorry to hear about WC's hip. Didn't see it noted in her log.

---Felt surprisingly good today. Was out pretty late last night and had a busy morning with client/coaching stuff. I woke up feeling pretty drug out but this coffee/coconut oil combo seems to perk me up really well.

--The easiest 80% has felt on the bench so far. Setting up was weird on these benches but it didn't seem to impact me too much. On the upside they were a bit wider and very comfortable. Very stable. I'd like to have one.

--Felt like a sexual tyrannosaurus rex while squatting. I tried to stay conservative though. The next squat session in #31 looks gnarly and I want a lot in the tank for that. So I just bumped the second two work sets of 350 5% to 370. Not a big deal and placated my ego. I just felt really in the groove today.

--In the CF gym they were doing a slack lining class while I was doing accessory work. They talked me into getting on one. It was a fun challenge and I only ate shit once.

--On that note I enjoyed training in their gym today. Nice change of pace and good for the focus. I need to make an effort to do it more often.

I don't think I'll ever get my Summer Bulking Crew T-Shirt.

Also those slacklining kids were telling me yesterday that I shouldn't be surprised if I woke up with some abdominal soreness. I don't know if it's the power of suggestion but... pretty sore this AM.

Something I wanted to note on yesterday's squatting. It was the first time in my short lifting career that I felt poorly balanced in my walkouts. I don't know if this was because my core was a bit tired or I'm finally handling weights heavy enough relative to BW for this to be an issue. In any event I'm noting this in an attempt to remind myself to control them a bit more. I did notice on one 370 set that rushing the walkout affected my set up.

Sometimes when I'm tired/not fully recovered and my CNS isn't fully functional, loss of balance/wobbliness during squat walk outs is readily evident compared to normal. Normally my walkouts are 100% solid, regardless how heavy the weight is, so this is an instant notice that my shit is off on the particular day.

Slack lining sounds like tons of fun.

This is very possible. I know I got less sleep than usual from chasing ass the night prior. And I missed a small amount of food. So, I guess I should feel even better about how good the actual squatting felt.

Either way I'm not stressing it. Just seemed worth noting.
