Daniel Cormier vs prime Randy Couture

Seriously, you think that? Randy was a much better MMA wrestler than Hendo was, and that was far from Hendo in his prime, and the thread is about Randy in his prime. I could post a gif of Randleman slamming Fedor too, but Randleman didn't do that to Randy.

When was Prime Randy? The guy had a checkered record his whole career with a few win streaks here and a few losing streaks there...

If they fought back in early 2000s, and they only had the available MMA knowledge at that time, I'd pick randy anytime. Randy was an mma legend and game changer, he fought wrestling monsters like randleman and brock and proved he can hang with the best of them. The game has improved to what it is today largely due to the contributions of these early fighters like randy, hughes, royce, etc... They wont be relevant fighters if they fought now, but back then they were ahead of the curve. So if they fought in the past, i take randy. If they fought present time, DC wins.

Let's even say before he went back down to LHW in 2009, at age 46, as he was holding his own at 45 weighing 219 against 280 plus NCAA champion Lesnar. But that isn't the point. The point is that you are using the Hendo fight as an example, and Hendo was clearly on the decline by then, and Hendo wasn't the MMA wrestler that Randy was. I would pick DC in a fight, but to act like Randy would get dominated is silly.

^ that made me lol :D

And don't forget Gonzaga broke Randy's fucking arm with a high kick (one that drilled CC) and Randy still fucked GG up terribly. Picked his big ass up and slammed him so hard he broke his own nose with his knee. Randy was a gorilla. People tend to forget.

As somebody else already said, Randy was starting to fuck Lesnar up. He just got caught by a lunchbox fist. And keep in mind Randy at that point was WAY past his prime.

I don't think that's true at all. It's evolving. But not as fast by leaps and bounds as it did in the first 10 years. Fighters of the Randy/chuck/Fedor/CC/BJ era in their primes would still fuck some current top dudes up. The evolution is still happening but it's slowed down a bit. imo.

Well, if that were the case your point would be valid. However, I personally don't see prime Chuck or Randy (great as they are) having a shit show against Jones, Cormier, or Gus. I don't see Fedor, Randy or CC having a shit show against Cain, JDS, Stipe, and prime BJ sure as hell wouldn't be top 5 at 170 or 155 in this era. I agree that the development isn't as fast or apparent as it was in the first 10 years but it is still evolving more quickly than nearly any other sport in the world and at his point in time 5 years is enough for a fighters skill set to become very dated IMO.

DC's afr better at what Randy was known for, and that's dirty boxing. It would be a beat down.

Couture has no chance. He has a much better shot at beating Rumble.

The big difference for me is that Comrier would likely have the edge in power and chin plus at the very least would be able to keep it standing much of the time if not out wrestle couture.

Randy best chance would IMHO be cardio, maybe in a 5 rounder he can tire Cormier out and nick a decision.

Randy had a glass chin and was built like a 30 year old when he was 50. Should have been called randy the unnatural couture. He beat Tim Sylvia who gives a shit
to date Tim Sylvia is one of the most successful HW champions the UFC has ever had. that being said, Randy would never beat DC. he doesn't have enough power, and his wrestling would be neutralized.

I think this is kind of like comparing a new mustang to a 65 ... Sure the new one has more power and better everything but people love a classic

If both prime dc more than likely gets the w but he gets booed out of the building

Any DC beats any Randy. Jones beats any LHW that has ever existed.

DC murders him, better wrestling, chin and boxing.

Randy has better wall and stall though.

When was Coutures prime? When he was getting subbed by Enson and Valentijn or losing to Barnett and Rico. Or was it getting knocked out by Chuck twice or when a few fights later Brock KOed him?

I think Randy does much better than Hendo but loses by decision

This thread has alot of comments from people that I believe are just reading fight finder and drawing conclusions, or only started watching MMA when couture was well past his prime.

Bringing up his losses and saying things like "glass chin" is a dead giveaway that you didn't watch the fights the mattered, when they happened, in context of the sport at that time.

That being said, I think DC would've beaten a prime Randy because of edges in speed/power, with a similar stylistic base. But its not really an apples/apples comparison as others have mentioned... Totally different eras.

In any case, I don't know that it would've been the one sided blowout that many here are predicting.. Posting hendo gifs etc. Not the same thing whatsoever.

DC has the superior clinch, striking, top game, BJJ, and probably edges him in power. I think that he'd dictate where the fight went and be more effective the whole way. Probably a late T/KO in a fight that starts competitive but becomes all DC after a round to a round and a half.

"probably edges him in power" Huh? Randy never had ko power, he was more of a drag you into deep water, wear you out and get the tko.
