This. DC is more or less the evolved and more athletic version of Randy. Both of them use strikes to get into the clinch where they do their best work, Randy grinds them out on the fence and gets takedowns from there while DC can do that along with ragdolling & tossing them around. In the standup, DC has more speed & power and does a lot more damage from the clinch. I'd say the only advantage Randy has is he makes better in fight adjustments, but that's not enough to even things out unless DC really screws up.

Randy was a legend for sure, but that doesn't change how good DC is. He's 17-1 against most of the best competition at LHW and HW, and if Jones didn't exist he might have had a much longer reign at LHW. He's an Olympic wrestler whose wrestling translated well to MMA and he has an iron chin to boot (knocked down by those rumble bombs but he got up and won the fight). Randy is a great fighter, but if you honestly (without bias) analyze DC's fights and Couture's I don't know how you could make the argument that Randy would win.

The sport has evolved a lot since Randy's time. Look at Jones and who he beat, a who's who of the big names from the Liddell/Pride era.

Just cause you hate DC doesn't change the fact that he's a great god damn fighter.

Either you are taking DC back to Randy's prime in which case DC becomes a bigger Darrell Gholar, or you bring Prime Randy into the future and this...

While i'd never count Randy out, it's hard for me to believe he's a better fighter than Cormier. Cormier is likely better at most everything other than game plans than Randy, and it would be damn hard for Randy to game plan against someone that could beat him at his strengths.

Don't forget they have one common opponent: Josh Barnett. Josh was on an 8-fight win streak when he fought Cormier, and was pretty much in his prime at 34 (not really old for a HW). His catch and overall game were solidified. He didn't have the age and ring rust decline that he's shown in recent fights.

While Randy started out strong against Barnett, it didn't end well for him. Cormier, OTOH, outwrestled and outworked Josh the entire fight. After that, it was safe to say Cormier's MMA wrestling was some of the best ever seen. Even though he was the smaller man, he picked up Josh and slammed him easily, like they were in the WWE or something.
