That doesn't mean it's a good thing. Political systems can be set up the same way to cater to easily-enraged people's more basic natures. In truth like you're pointing out they're only being told what to hate.

Don't get me wrong (and I'm glad you responded), I've experienced "glee" in watching someone lose on occasion (which is somewhat necessary to experience the opposite when someone wins); it's just a matter of degree. It goes too far (for me) to actually extend hatred or wish for injuries or worse. It being a fight and settled is enough for the loser.

Basically, what makes money being cheered above what is right will only keep us progressively down as a species. Not that you've done that. Feed people garbage and it comes around. Feed them education and enlightenment and no one will have to be a clown.
 
Being active is the best recipe for popularity as a Champ. See Poaton, Izzy, Usman, Charles, Volk. None of them are very charismatic or have amazing mic skills, but they had a run of activity that consistently kept them at the forefront of the minds of fans & media alike.

Islam was active until the close Volk fight. He's taken 8-9 months off the last few fights, which is okay to do once in a while but Back-to-back & seemingly 3rd straight hiatus isn't what fans want.

Maybe Islam should just fight the best fighters available then maybe someone will give a shit about watching rather than waiting for them to all be booked before taking a fight
