Media Daniel Cormier defends the UFC regarding Francis Ngannou

DC interviewed Francis after he signed his PFL deal, so he's always giving UFC talking points, but interviewing Francis was big move. Rogan routinely interviews people that Dana bashes and have bashed Dana without regard, but he always acts shocked when they tell him the Dana issue from their end. DC just thinking about that broadcast and YouTube money and doesn't want to jeopardize it too much lol.

I personally thought Ngannou was signing up to take a beating and cash out his credibility for a big payday, so I can't criticize anyone else for thinking the exact same thing. I also wasn't excited to see Frank in the PFL figthing whoever they could scrape up from the bottom of the barrel. So I don't think any of the shade thrown at him was unfair, so much at it was incorrect.

I think anyone besides Francis who says they believed whole heartedly that this is how that fight was going to go is lying.

I'm sure today, the UFC brass is pretty happy about a million headlines and articles claiming a UFC or former UFC champion beat up Tyson Fury. The PR for the UFC is probably better than the PR for the PFL. So I think DC may be kinda honest about this lifting the sport.

He may not have been worth the money for the UFC. By all accounts this event was paid for with Saudi oil money and the financeers didn't care at all if they lost every dime they spent. So if the PPV numbers weren't great (which they likely aren't), no harm no foul. But the UFC is property of a publicly traded company now and they can't knowingly lose money on events.

I think this event was promoted in a pretty unique way that worked well for the fighters, but wasn't a good fit for the UFC's business model. I don't think it represents the windfall that people seem to be implying the UFC is mad about missing out on.

My mans broke it all the way down. 100

UFC offered him crazy money to fight Jones...but wouldn't let him box... Considering there a MMa promotion and the last boxing trial was kinda embarrassing for MMA conor Vs Mayweather... They didnt want to do it...

Francis didn't want to take the deal...so he was under his rights to move on and did ..so he could box and do MMA elsewhere..and he did great for himself..

Why would the UFC be affected by anything Francis does lol .. they already made lots of money off Francis...

I think its just weird financial fans blowing up about this that they somehow think the UFC is going broke cuz Francis boxed once lol...

Since when is "FREE ADVERTISING" bad?

No news is bad news, even if it makes you look bad.

He'd defend the UFC for killing Jesus
"He did not show up for a fight"

This is how stupid the lay fan is.

On social media recently, ESPN posted a pic of a little man, 2 or 3 years old, whose family dressed him as Jones for Halloween, down to the Bible verse tattoo and whatnot. It was actually pretty good, but me, I had to bring up that the costume was incomplete, needed a syringe hanging out of his buttcheek and smeared powder on his nostrils.

The lone responder's thoughts were telling. Some poor casual lady responds with, "Wouldn't you like to believe he's on steroids??" I'm like, "He literally popped fo them multiple times lol," to which she responds, "No, his titles would have been gone." Obviously, my response was, "He was literally stripped of his LHW belt. Do you even actually watch this sport??" I didn't receive anymore responses after that.

I don't think the UFC thinks the lay fan is stupid, I'm pretty sure they know they are.

if anything blame Tyson Fury. He is supposed to be top heavyweight boxer and Ngannou is supposed to be the new guy. Nobody was prepared for this whole mess of a situation

Does DC think fans are stupid? The UFC publicly disparaged Francis. They said he’s not worth the money he asked for, they said he wouldn’t amount to anything without the UFC. Dana openly taunted Francis and basically told him his career is over. The UFC also pushed the narrative that Francis left to avoid Jon Jones.

DC said similar things in a less harsh way. DC said Ngannou needed to “bite the bullet” and return to the UFC. Said there’s not much opportunity for Francis without them. Now all of sudden people want to act like they’re proud of Ngannou and it’s a huge achievement for the sport. Even though they criticized and doubted Francis the entire time… It’s shameful.

Tbf to DC, he admitted he was wrong when he said Ngannou fumbled the bag, so he's already acknowledged that Francis made the right decision to not re-sign with UFC.

for the record, the whole "uplifting the entire sport" thing only really works if the sport has any semblance of unity or cohesion in the first place

Shut up DC. company suka.

UFC gives fighters pennies, their contracts are slavery. I have no time to go into details, everything is available to read on the internet.

Dana shat on Frank because Frank is a self made man and he demanded more for the fighters. He even put into his contract with PFL that his next opponent gets minimum 1 mil Frank's the man. He didn't need to dance box and use your best friends money to run a company.

Only reason UFC is not shitting on Frank now is because they see a potential situation where they could exploit his success. UFC is just the worst.

The UFC hasn't said anything about Francis in like 10 months. They don't give a shit, that's the entire point of moving on with new champions.

The only bitter people living in the past about the split are the Francis side apparently.

MMA has been clinging off his performance...off course they low key are happy too, it makes them look good if someone doesnt know the specifics of their departure.

Having said that...DC is a UFC employee, so whats he gonna say?

I'm sure the UFC is real pissed that Francis stayed on his old contract and still fought for them regardless instead of fighting for the $15M they offered him in new contracts along the way.

Just totally pissed that they wound up saving millions and millions of dollars.

It's the people pretending to have ever thought that Ngannou would succeed that get me.

Fury vs Usyk, the actual biggest boxing bout in the world to determine #1, was literally signed for Dec 2023 because of course everybody expected Fury to be perfectly capable of fighting his hardest opponent only 2 months later. Nobody at all was prepared for him not to be and now they're scrambling to have to delay Fury/Usyk to the spring.

It's a complete shock to the system and yet you've got guys pretending like of course Ngannou was going to be a hard fight and everybody knew it.

Of course the UFC is upset

Otherwise, how about a congratulatory post from UFC to their former HW Champion then?

Maybe let Dana tweet a "Thank You" to Ngannou for "uplifting the sport"?

I'll wait

Yep. They haven't said anything and the most I expect from Dana is that someone will ask him about it at a press conference and he will say "good for Francis" and immediately move on.
