Daniel Cormier as ESPN Commentator for NCAA Wrestling

I knew that was a bad move by Stevenson. Nothing much to gain, a lot to lose. He went from World champ to college runner up. He went from Kurt Angle to Brock Lesnar in one match.

+1

Dude’s made some iffy career decisions. He's spent the last 3 years playing touchbutt in the park, signing with and getting cut by WWE, trying and failing to make an NFL squad, skipping the 2024 Olympics and THEN decides to half ass a college wrestling comeback (after training everything BUT folkstyle wrestling) with nothing to gain? WTF this dude is a special athlete but he’s wasting his athletic prime. He could have been the first ever 5x Olympic champ but maybe he just wants to sandblast hookers with Jon Jones.

Gable Steveson, Olympic Gold Medalist, apparently is still competing in the NCAA circuit and got upset by Oklahoma State University (DC, Randy Couture and Mark Munoz' Univ) stud Wyatt Hendrikson.

Cormier is awful at MMA commentary but he seems better fitted for NCAA commentary.

I don't follow NCAA Wrestling but apparently this is a nuclear level event. And it was big enough that Trump was there to congratulate the winner.

edit -Wyatt is in the US Air Force too, so I guess that's why Trump was there.

Also, many OSU dudes went into MMA.

DC did a great job -- last year he said he wasn't going to do it again from all the crap he got, but this year, fans were very pleased, generally. I have always liked his work both in MMA and wrestling commentary. He's a fun dude.

Agreed. I feel like last year he referenced MMA one too many times for the fans liking. He cut back on a lot of that. He brought a lot of energy which is nice for the non-wrestling family members in the room getting forced to watch something they don't care much about.

But yea he said he gets paid enough to get abused for UFC commentary, but the lack of pay and mean words from the wrestling community seemed to hurt his feelings more than he cares what the MMA community thinks about him.

"He's 5'5 and he got a 6'3 girlfriend, he got a 6'3 girlfriend!!! they just panned over to her with his family but her head was cut off the screen"

I actually thought it was a good move. I also didn't expect him to lose though. But after a failed WWE and NFL route he needed to refresh what made him popular to begin with. Like The Rock making WWF appearances after a disappointing movie.

Gable can either coach wrestling or start MMA at this point but this year was a reminder that he still has it and he isn't too far removed from his glory days. Even with the loss he still got paid 6 figures if not a million I'd assume for this come back season. And even with the 2nd place finish his name still holds more value again in a negotiation with Dana than had he jumped right over from failing in the NFL.

The NCWCWFA National wrestling alliance.

Daniel Cormier was close to coming in with a steel chair to get Wyatt disqualified and so Gable could retain his record.

But Cormier had too much popeyes and couldn't get off his chair.

I watched it live, was much more satisfying than the UFC that day.

I thought DC got criticism last year and said he wasn't going to do the NCAAs anymore. I could be wrong though
