Media Daniel Cormier And Chael Sonnen: "There's No Conversation" Alex Pereira Is GOAT If Wins Third Belt

What is all this GOAT talk? People are just obsessed with crowning people.

In all fairness if Alex achieved this he would definitely be worthy of such discussion but leave it to DC to whip up the shillish hyperbole to create over the top euphoria.

He'd have to knock Jones specifically out becoming a 3 division champ in the process to enter the conversation.
I think Jones v Pereira at either light heavyweight or heavyweight somewhere down the line is the UFC endgame. It’s a legitimate super fight and I’d like to think Dana has already suggested it to both fighters for a couple of years time - perhaps as Jones’ final fight before he retires.

No one should be allowed to fight for 3 titles specifically to prevent this sort of "Hey I won 2 fights that got me 2 additional belts so I'm the GOAT now" BS.

If you win 2 titles you should only be able to fight for titles in one of those 2 weight classes. Otherwise we get the whole boxing experience where we've got a whole lengthy wikipedia page of 3 division champs.

So do title defenses not matter anymore?lol.

Defenses matter most. By far.

When you hop around a la Conor, you are skipping the line and not sticking around to be tested by a variety of contenders, not testing your ability to stay focused and motivated, not fighting through injuries and other adversity, fight after fight. Guys who can line up defenses are incredible athletes.

may not be the goat overall but this would have to be one of the greatest runs ever.. when u put everything in order, hes damn near a rookie in mma

I still value title defences and win streaks higher. It's that kind of consistency at the highest level that makes GOATs.

Bad take due to extremely lopsided access to opportunity.

Anderson Silva and Jose Aldo both could have been triple champs if they got the opportunities at the right times, but back then you didn't get free additional belt title shots.

He needs more defenses against top people in a given weight class. He's one of a kind but as far as UFC GOAT he's just got Dana Hype Privilege.

Anyone in the top 15 outside of Magomed gets slept easily, I don't dispute that. I'm just not liking how much control time D1 Blachowitz was able to inflict on Alex. Magomed is a far better grappler and his striking seems to be getting better with each fight.

If Alex gets it done against Magomed then I'll happily eat crow.
If Alex beats Magomed. Then I'd get on board with Alex possibly beating a HW Jones. Magomed is a good wrestler.

He needs to defend the LHW and let's see him against fighters who are more grappling oriented as well.

Islam defends the belt one or twice against a guy from the division below: GOAT.
For Alex to be the GOAT: needs to win 3 belts.

Got it, makes sense, lol.

The MMA community is hilariously inconsistent on this "GOAT" issue, that much is blatantly obvious.

I think it would be close to being the most IMPRESSIVE run in UFC history if he won the 3rd belt. The talent hes beaten is pretty undeniable at this point. And how he has looked doing it.

It would be remarkable but he has also been significantly fast tracked for these opportunities & his resume at LHW is not that strong. I don't think he is anywhere near a GOAT conversation to anyone reasonable (if anyone reasonable would talk about that anyway)

I blame all of the multiple division champ = making it big to Conor McGregor doing it the first time (against Eddie Alvarez at that) and ending up generational wealth from the opportunities that were handed to him after on a silver platter.

Better to be the first person that achieved a milestone compared to the person that came after.
