Dana's Contender Series 2025 thread

Yes there is. These aren’t even the best prospects

Im going to watch the shit out of this but none of my top prospects are on this list.
Yeah, I agree lol. Not sure why I said there isn’t. ACA alone has tons of prospects. If only the UFC would sign more than one Dagestani and Chechen per division.

yeah I have a list of 50+ fighters who could be on it.. IIRC ufc doesn't even have talent scouts and just relies on word of mouth and their matchmakers, which is insane.

this should be good...id like to contribute in the future.

This is correct. A lot of sports leagues with less resources do this but it's basically an agent negotiation process. So your agent has to be in the ears of the right matchmakers.

And it's complicated, for example, by the fact that they have some arbitrary parameters like, they generally don't like fighters coming off decision wins. Ok. Let's say you're 10-0 but you fought 2 really tough fighters your last time out and they went to decision. Now the DWCS doesn't want you.

So there are plenty more good fighters out there, but the process itself is still a work in progress.

cool to see you contributing to the prospect report.....congrats..

question. any idea why the filters of only fighters with 20+ fights and over 30?

Just got to have a cut off point somewhere

guess so but you're eliminating at least 50% of the prospect pool, so is it really the top 25 prospects? not trying to hate, def looking forward to it.

I don't think it'll eliminate that many. It's anyone under 30 with under 20 fights who will qualify. There are some people like Raul Tuturauli or Vartanyan who'll miss out but are they really prospects?

sorry I completely misread and am retarded, I thought they had to be over 30 with 20 fights lol, my bad. carry on.

seriously praying it will get into the hands of people either close to or at the UFC

Sofia Montenegro stepping in for Regina Tarin. Yikes is all I’ll say.

Always excited for DWCS but I really don’t know how they plan to expand it next year. They either have to actually scout talent, or offer more money to get better prospects on. Why do DWCS for 5/5 when the PFL might sign you for 10/10 or 15/15?

To be honest, I am not baffled by all the guys they get. At least 30 fighters per year are quite random, and I guess they are here just because they agree to be the B side of a fight against the guy the UFC wants. For example, last year, DWCS had 2 French fighters who are nowhere near the best prospects in Western Europe, but agreed to face Vakhitov and Marco Tulio
Lots of guys didn't accept facing guys like Vakhitov, Tulio, Vallejos. Same as this year, they didn't find anyone for Augen before he got injured
Finding 100 new guys means you find 30-35 great prospects, 30-35 good prospects, and 30-35 guys who are not elite prospects/ near the UFC, and know they are expected to get beaten up
Overall, finding 60+ other good prospects is not that tough: Phumi Nkuta, Amru Magomedov, Sheehan, Riley, Jawany if he beats Shaj, Paddy McCorry, Adiguzel, Nabiev, Chopurov, Yunusov, Pires, Lany Silva, Consuli, Mesquita, Canetto, Marcos flyweight of LFA, bunch of other LFA Brazilians, Joseilton, Kubanza, Talha, Murtazali Magomedov, Tanzilovi, Luke Fernandez, Bulaid, the Brave HW champ, the Slovenian HW, Pink Panther, Novenyi, Hwende, Sekeletu, Canadian Morrison, Cody BW could all make sense, and I don't follow the North American scene but you can get 2-3 champs in CFFC, LFA, Fury FC, Urijah Faber's thing, Combate, Canadian promotions
Once you've done that, Iridium, Ali Abdelaziz, Rubenstein, Urijah Faber, and others will find 30+ Tier-2 fighters who will fight against the killers you scouted
You can also avoid visa issues by having 1-2 DWCS cards in Brazil, Abu Dhabi, Europe

I want PFL to succeed and be a viable rival to the UFC, but it just isn't, and it probably won't ever.

Nobody grew up dreaming about being in the PFL. Competing on the Contender Series is a chance to join the biggest organization in the world. Signing with the PFL (even for twice as many peanuts) is a consolation prize.

Agree with all of this. I have a sneaking suspicion they are doing more outreach based on comments from RCC promoter mentioning a few of their fighters possibly joining

The problem is that a lot of the time they do the opposite. They let managers and management agencies offer their fighters and they just look at their records and if they have good looking records (numbers wise, not skill wise) they sign those guys so you could be 10-0 against endless guys with extensive losing records and there's a good chance they'll sign you over someone that is 22-3 against legit competition. It's not always the case, but a lot of the time that's the case.

Yep but you can also see the half-full cup of water. Now that you have DWCS, those regional can crushers with 10-0 records have to face another prospect in DWCS before joining the UFC, while they used to sign a few can crushers every year (if we are precise, they used to sign 10-0 can crushers, then they used to ask them to take a fight or two against another prospect in RFA or Cage Warriors, then switching to the DWCS model)
Management agencies have more influence on late notice fighters, especially Iridium and, to a lesser extent, Ali Abdelaziz

yeah its been the laziest scouting/matchmaking. the Russian fighters they've had on dwcs for example...outside of maybe Aliaskhab Khizriev (who's gone MIA)...I don't think any of them were top 50 prospects in the region..obviously contracts to blame for part of that but there is plenty of talent available.

outside of 3 or 4 rcc fighters rumored to be close to DWCS..there is this also..but not sure how true this is and obv prob depends on him winning his UAE fight.. would be one of the best signings ever, but taking it with a grain of salt for now

Like Nazim Sadigov, I will fight in Dana White Contender Series before UFC. Good news coming to us from Dana White. Inshallah we are waiting for response. He also announced that he wants to fight in the next UFC tournament in Baku.
