Very thoughtful and nicely written. I agree with everything you said.
Props, thanks man! I like to think that I can assess this stuff pretty reasonably and offer opinions that are as thought out & unbiased as a fan of this sport realistically can, but you never really know how true that is until you get some feedback, so I appreciate the compliment
I honestly don't think a move to JW will have this profound effect in his game as he has always been overrated. His KO's against Barnett and Gonzaga, while impressive, was a product of circumstance. People assumed that he was this smooth and slick HW striker because of his emulation of Dom's style when he really was nothing more than a durable and unorthodox who no longer is either one of those.
Like i said above - under JW, 16-2-1, w/ wins across 2 decisions, 2 subs, and 12 by strikes(7 KOs, 5 TKOs - who else has a resume like that?).
So, if so many of his wins aren't the result of Browne applying his ability & skill, but are literally ONLY the result of luck and 'circumstance', are ALL of his 12 KOs lucky, and/or circumstantial? If not, then why is it only his biggest wins that are lucky? That are ONLY the result of 'circumstance', NOT skill & ability? I get that fights aren't just 'black & white', that 'Ws' & 'Ls' don't tell the story of the fight, but, seriously...
It's EASY to criticize Travis Browne, it's EASY to pick apart his fights, his style, HIM. But this doesn't hold an ounce of water, this is just utterly absurd.
He has speed, he has length, he [had] footwork lightyears ahead of pretty much anyone else at HW(including plodding ass Overeem) - it would be luck if his KOs WEREN'T the result of his ability & skills, because, having 12 wins by KO out of 16 ISN'T luck or circumstance - it's a very clear pattern.
And, like I explained above, his chin is as good as it ever was - how many times has he been knocked out COLD by a SINGLE strike? When Browne gets KO'd, it happens because his opponent pressures him back to the fence, where he stops moving laterally, stands straight up, with his chin right up in the air, and it takes multiple strikes to put him away. The moment someone[coach] gets his ass off the fence, you'll stop seeing him getting finished with strikes(well, it'll happen significantly less, like earlier in his career anyways).
Whether or not Greg & Mike could turn his career around like they did Arlovsky's, I don't know, that's purely up to Travis. They can if he is capable of and willing to reset everything mentally - having the humility & motivation to wipe everything out, clean sheet, starting from square one - but, if he can't make the necessary mental changes, then obviously no amount of training from anyone will improve things
