Upper east side. Random run-of-the-mill suburbs, dime a dozen around here. And that's the problem, nothing's affordable anymore. Only barely if you're unfortunate enough to live in some of the bummier south jersey parts, some shitty central areas, or like heroin-city Paterson, which is one of the only bad parts of the north.
Ya know, I used to think the "tristate" was NY, NJ, & PA (because who gives a shit about Connecticut?) but even though I'm wrong, I still refer to that triumvirate as the real tristate area, and frankly, there's nothing like the food in these states. NJ gets a perfect blend of like NY's diverse cuisine and PA's absolute grease flavor. We're like the runoff of NY slices and Philly cheesesteaks. Diners are everywhere and grease-truck spots are the bomb. Not to mention the breakfast sandwiches, that are just so lost on other states. My brother moved to the west coast, and we try to ship him some taylor ham or pancetta when we can, just to keep his sanity.
I remember like a decade ago, with a former fling from Ohio, we were looking at places to move in together in both Ohio and New Jersey, and you get some Ohio apartments, even lakeside, for $750/month, and I was like, "Fuck, double that for NJ just for 4 walls and maybe a roof." And it's at least twice as worse today.
