News Dana White announces Derrick Lewis has signed new 8-fight deal

Why is that a problem? I never understoood the point of caring what schedule or bout order the fighters are on a MMA card, if fans really care about these fighters they will tune in when they are fighting no matter what. Folks on here use to stay up at 2-4 in the am to watch a card or a just a fight they were interested in. People are fickle, if you don't want to watch Luis, then you don't have to, if he's in the main card then take a break, there are many things to do in a 15min time span. Why do people care so much about a fight placement & bout order, it makes no fucking sense, the fighters don't even care, they get paid either way.
Because there are only so many slots on a PPV card. Putting him on a main card, makes the card weaker, but its not like its any cheaper. He belongs on the prelims. Do you not have to pay for the events where you are?

Yes, he's fun. Yes, he's marketable. Yes, he produces fun fights, exciting finishes and is a knockout holder, and all that.

The reason the UFC signed him to that big of a deal is simple. Keep him away from Ngannou.

Their first fight was a snoozer, but it's still a win Lewis holds over Ngannou and a rematch would do big business outside the UFC ( huge contract on the line, better storyline than their first fight, big, fun fight for casuals and hardcores alike).
Dana will do anything to deprive Ngannou of worthwhile opponents.

There is no doubt that was huge point behind close doors.

But either way at least from fans perspective about fighter pay it helped Lewis get paid that is for sure.

I agree it was 100% a tactical signing...

Lewis probably got a good deal too seeing as he could leverage the Ngannou and PFL against UFC ...

Definitely a controlled signing to keep Ngannou from getting relevant fight at PFL ...

Lewis isn't taking his chances with PFL because Francis is off playing boxing and who knows if or when he will ever fight mma again.

But but why!!! Bellator & PFL pays more money & their contracts are not slave contracts(Tell that to Manoel Sousa)

The more and more I see fighters resigning with the UFC, the more I believe these fighters are making great money in the UFC even though on the contrary the UFC/Dana haters want you to believe these fighters are broke.
UFC is more secure at the end of the day. Fighters could be afraid PFL will go broke and their deals will be worthless. Lewis could possibly set himself up for a big payday fight against Francis but that guy is currently a boxer. If he somehow miraculously knocks out Fury then they would do a rematch and Lewis could be waiting forever. UFC usually allows 3 losses in a row before they think about cutting you and probably even more than that for a HW like Lewis. They are probably figuring they have a minimum of 4 paydays from whatever deal they are on and probably more than that.

Is than anything more embarrassing than using 14 stupid SD emojis and then be 100% WRONG?

Holy cow, the Power Slap game is more popular than CoD and FIFA

<DCWhoa>

Dana has the Midas touch confirmed

It is crazy how Dana thinks powerslap is a legitimate thing. And he justified it because the competitors did it for "free" in the past.

And that one reporter saying it has a big fight feel to it lol.

I will say this, I looked and there were 75k+ live viewers watching it last night towards the end. I'd be willing to bet thats more people than watched some WMMA-headlined Apex cards all the way through. So, there is a morbid curiosity that can make people tune in + they can develop the personalities of the people doing it and try to go viral, maybe have some MMA fighter crossover in the future to add recognizable names into it.

Having said all that I think conceptually it's terrible, it's just CTE central and you can't defend yourself, and to make that worse they flip a coin to decide who slaps first and that gives you a massive advantage, there has to be a change there to where they do ANYTHING to compete for going first, even rock paper scissors, tic tac toe, checkers, twister, an arm wrestling match, something besides blind luck to decide such a major advantage.

The real reason the UFC signed him is because he's fun, marketable, produces fun fights, exciting finishes and is a knockout holder, and all that.

Good for BB. Glad he's making decent money. He's not very good but he's the embodiment of the UFC and fits there perfectly. No reason for him to leave.

He seems most excited and animated when chatting about that stupid Power Slap nonsense in that presser, which is more than worrying to say the least

When he gets excited about that crap I hang my head in shame for him.
It's not going to be the great thing that he thinks it is sir.

Meanwhile people like me and you are left to scratch our collective heads and wonder wtf he sees in it.

There was never any question they were going to resign him after that knockout. He's gold for them as long as he can win every once in a while and drop a post fight interview.

I love Derrick Lewis, but the REAL reason is because the HW division is just terrible.
