The fight was announced 3.5 hours later on X.

Dana just meant don't tell anybody so the announcement's a surprise.

And then he reported it as fact rather than verifying it. He didn't say "the UFC was unavailable for comment" or "the UFC has disputed this claim". No disclaimer that the claims were as yet unverified. He rushed to publication to get those sweet early mover clicks rather than doing his job, and he seemingly reported incorrect information.

From a journalistic integrity perspective that's shameful.

And Cruz reported, as a statement of fact "Two days in a row where fights announced by Dana White are now off". Those are his words and they are not true. He published inaccurate information rather than making 1 phone call to the UFC's PR team to request clarification or to get a statement.

I understand that you don't understand how journalism works, but I do. That's really bad. He fucked up in a way that would possibly get him fired in real journalism.
