Dan Hooker commitment to UFC 266

I was there (In China) when it all happened and saw how everything unfolded infront of me firsthand and how they handled it

But yeah sure, you should know better watching CNN, Fox aand MSM News

I dont watch those outlets. You are a CCP shill

So here in NZ we are in lockdown because of another covid outbreak
A couple of weeks ago Dan's training camp got broken up because they where breaking lockdown rules.
Since then hes been training by himself at home. Not the greatest prep for a fight that he really needs to win to get back into the mix.

Also because of covid, its been super hard to get a Visa. Last night weren't even sure Dan could make it over. Would actually have been a blessing in disguise if he couldn't as his fight prep hasn't been the best obviously.

https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2021...icly-requests-visa-approval-covid-19-lockdown

However this morning with Visa approved, he announced a fn crazy timeline he is on to ensure he makes this fight.

- Fly out Thursday night (cut weight on the plane)
- Arrive Vegas Friday morning and weigh in
- Fight Saturday

New Zealand to Vega is a 16 hour flight and a NZ is on a 19 hour time difference.

So yeah, he's gonna be up against it.
Can't knock his dedication, he's up against it though, jesus...
Australia and new Zealand are heavy with their covid restrictions though eh?
My neice and her boyfriend went over to Australia for a year before covid, they've been there nearly three years now and what they tell me of the lockdowns is mental.
Worse places to be in lockdown though, oz is beautiful.

It sucks that he has to go through this.
Every fighter should be at their best when locked in the cage, I don't think he will be at his best cutting weight on the plane.
Either way, props to him. Seems like a solid enough dude. Good, exciting, not elite figther.

I’m in the UK, we’re not much better with our no use politicians but the stuff especially from Oz is off the scale bonkers.
I’m in Brisbane, Queensland. How things are in different Australian states depends on how mad with power each State Premier is. We’ve had a few “circuit breaker lockdowns” where for a week or two our benevolent Government overlords and unelected health officials, have wanted us to not venture more than a certain distance from home unless it’s for so called “essential work”.

But the rules are so arbitrary and absurd. For example, In the same day I am told I am not allowed to go outside and exercise for more than an hour, and that I am not allowed to venture more than 10Km from my house unless it’s for essential purposes, I am also allowed to drive 100Km to the Gold Coast everyday to work construction because it’s deemed essential.
I’ve been very lucky to not miss a single days work.

But certain State Premiers, such as Victoria’s, are so mad with power that since all this crap began, he has created conditions that made 1% of his State’s population decide to bail and move to other States. Which is causing real estate buying and rental shortages in other states.

Some people that have moved from Victoria to Queensland that I have met were so desperate to get out of Victoria that they are offering to pay significantly over what a vacant rental is asking. Also offering to pay one years rent in advance so they can get exemptions to cross the Victorian border and get out of the State.

You should tell everyone you know to stop listening to them. It only works if we participate.

All I was trying to say is everyone, all countries need to do the same thing for a while in order to defeat it. I think a year is stretching it...if they make someone quarantine for 2 weeks then make everyone stay at home with no contact with others for a month.

The vaccine isn't brand new...they have vaccines for SARS viruses, they simple tweaked and existing one for COVID 19. the 19 is how many viruses they know about.
Lol 19 was because the virus was identified in 2019

hmm, is just our strategy when we have an outbreak. It enables us to live normally the rest of the time. We don't half ass things.

Lol that’s tyranny. I seen an interview with a rep from Australia or New Zealand ( can’t remember) calling it the new world order lol.

Uncle Joe is trying that shit in the US but is getting tons of backlash. We put these people in power to represent us, not control us.

Some of us are trying. But there’s this strange and disturbing thing happening where some people, particularly younger people, seem to be deriving meaning in their lives by showing how obedient they are. And how good they are at following the arbitrary rules that keep changing as this drags on and the goalposts continually get moved.

In the industry I work in, most have not been complying.

Damn. I guess I'm very far removed from what you're going through.

Didn't you guys shut down after like 1 case?
>.>

No we didn't shut. Restrictions are brought in to prevent the spread in the community. To simplify it.. there are four levels of restrictions. For many at level 3 or 4.. means they work from home. There is a wage subsidy offered by the government to help those that are off work. Or there are those like me.. nothing changes and you go to work as normal. Those that are at home are still free to go to the supermarket or whatever. No one is locked in their home. There are no military or armed guards roaming out streets. While it may seem over cautious to you.. NZ can't afford to have the delta variant in the community. Simply put.. we don't have the icu or hospital beds to deal with a large outbreak.

very soon many who were for lockdowns will be moaning about their economies plummeting for some mythical reason

For us.. our dollar hasn't dropped yet our unemployment levels have. Employers are forced to hire locals rather than flying in oversea workers.

Look at these clowns.

Visa issues are the new ducking mechanism. Why didn’t you send in the paperwork and apply early?

I feel like Hooker is using this as an excuse to get out of the fight. I don’t blame him, Nasrat is motivated for this one.

well well well.. not surprised the most overrated fighter in all of UFC is ducking an unranked fighter.
Hooker is a bum.

Pushed for the fight until he realized a motivated Nasrat spells trouble for him. So now he decides to pull out.

Canada to USA is not quite the same and New Zealand to USA - Dan has a young family
Didn't have to be the US. Lots of camps around the world, but I can respect him not wanting to disrupt his family.

And while the proximity is off, the US treats all commonwealth countries the same with work visas.

Australia is waiting for 80% plus of the population to be vaccinated so that our hospitals don't get overwhelmed and we don't see the kinds of death rates that the US, England, Italy, Brazil, and India saw during their first waves.

First waves always cause the most deaths because the people most susceptible to dying, die. There is a term for it. That wouldn't happen not matter what Australia did

I've seen this phenomenon first hand in the military. In particular I saw it in the separations unit. I was diagnosed with asthma and so got kicked out of the Navy after a bad case of bronchitis a couple months in. They sent me to a place with about 200 other people all waiting to go home. You are basically in jail for 4-6 weeks while they process you out (paperwork, etc. I'm not really sure.)

At this point you are still technically in the military but you have no real incentive to do anything at all. Head counts, cleaning, whatever else they want you to do, it is all pointless. Nevertheless they take a group of volunteers from the recruit pop waiting to go home and make them supervisors of sorts. Even though these kids got nothing out of it, no money, no potential to stay in the military, they would still work hard for their masters, maintain military bearing, and try to corall the behavioral seps who gave no fucks and they would constantly snitch. Little gestapo rats doing it just for the little power and personal validation

When we look back through history and wonder how large scale atrocities that happened could have happened when the people leading need so many other people on board beneath them to carry them out. And why so many people would do so.

That mentality must contribute to it in at least some way. Self preservation and thinking you may be spared for helping, or rewarded for following the orders so well.

And I hope having to leave the Navy early ended up being a blessing in disguise for you and that things worked out better for you in the long run.
