The fact that Hitler was the aggressor in Poland and all the holocaust stuff made him an evil adversary. Leaders in Japan and Italy with their regimes were terrible as well. But noone would think Stalin was righteous and killed millions of his own ultimately. Of course leaders are a mixed bag like anyone. Even during WWII. Overall efforts were just to push back on Hitler imo.

Then they became a part of the allies. The evil was not just war. It was the camps etc. The pics of survivors being skin and bones. The experiments... the mass gas chambers on civilian populations. His reputation is warranted imo. It's not propaganda.

Hitler did get pretty nasty, especially as the war went on, but he was among kindred peers in that regard. Soviet Union, French Empire, and British Empire all ruthless genocidaires who did whatever it took to get what they wanted. Also regarding the camps, I'm not sure if you are aware but the extent to which the Holocaust was a centralized affair is very much disputed among scholars. The gas chambers you mentioned were only used in a very small amount of concentration camps, all of which were in Poland holding mostly Polish Jews. If you are interested in the topic I would recommend googling the woman who ran Auschwitz. She was a truly shocking character and the true architect of the worst aspects of the Holocaust in my opinion.
