legitimately, what does any of that matter in modern context?
Jews literally trace their direct heritage back to the figures in these stories.
They celebrate the qualities of the “Heroes” of Jewish religious history, and adhere to the tenets of the Old Covenant much more strictly than Christians do their own texts.
It shouldn’t be a surprise that a group that has a foundational text that celebrates deception as a means to success over other groups, condoned by God himself, would continue to utilize those traits that got them where they are. These are literally God given qualities.
The message in the Old Testament is much more “love thy brother” (other Jews), than what Jesus preached (“love thy neighbor, even if they are Gentile)”.
That’s why they have a society and culture that supports each other so strongly, even today. It’s a stronger message to bond people who believe they are direct descendants of those that received divine protection from God himself (Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses).
Why would they feel bad deceiving people who AREN’T part of Gods Chosen people? God has clearly stated that as long as their intentions are good for the well being of other Jews, it’s fine.
If the Jewish holy scripture celebrates these things, why is it antisemitic for a non-Jew to say it?
It’s the same story today. ADL Twitter used to brag about Jewish people excelling in business/industry, pointing out how they have more CEO’s andbillionaires, and higher family income and IQ than every other group. It’s simply statistical fact.
However, when a non-Jew cites the same facts, they are antisemitic.
