If the actual next-gen upgrade is potentially a year away, or more, why would I give a shit about that if I’ve already played and beat it? It’s gravy but I’m not in the habit of playing 100 hour games over and over. I still haven’t even played The Witcher 3 again and it’s been years. How the Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 / Xbox Series X upgrade works
How will you be "long past the game at that point" if you don't buy the PS4 version?
I don't grasp the conflict. You buy a PS4 version today. That version is playable at launch on the PS5. It's still just the PS4 version, but even if you buy the game with a PS5 branding on the box, it will still be this same PS4-caliber version. As soon as the real PS5 version is available to buy, you get the upgrade for free. You lose absolutely nothing by not buying it today. Otherwise, you're just being a graphics snob by throwing your nose up at a this initial version. If in 1-2 years you are so jaded by the delay that you refuse to buy the game at all simply because it wasn't a launch title, as if to convey you perceive it as being graphically obsolete by the delay, you are taking this snobbery to the max.
Strange attitude for a console peasant.
There’s a good chance the next-gen version will have an edition with DLC included. I’d prefer to just get that down the road instead of playing a nerfed copy of the same game once and then playing a better version of it potentially a year or more later.
In short, fuck off.
