From my understanding the UFC has to offer fighters 3 fights per year, or that is how it used to be at least.

The UFC should just adopt a 6-month "date of" defense policy and strip fighters if they go diva and miss the deadline. Fuck them if they are healthy and won't fight. A champ should have a mandatory title defense within a 6-month window or lose the belt and champ status. The fighter losing out on his champ status also loses out on PPV point bonuses as well (or so I would think).

What better way to encourage a champ to fight instead of yap or play to the media? Defend as champ and take the PPV points, or lose the title and fight later anyways, just for less money.

The UFC would run so much smoother if they put in hard policy to make guys fight. Also would be great for rankings, fighters know if they are top 5 that they can sit around and just wait for title shots after a win. 1 year no fights booked? Automatic drop out of rankings + lose belt. I noticed this really became worse after Conor came on the scene and everyone saw how fighters could bend the UFC more.

I'm sure some of the champs are partly to blame but ultimately its the UFC that makes the fights. Champs are reserved for PPV cards and there's only an average of 12 of those a year. Some of those PPVs take place in certain countries that pay the UFC to come there and as such request certain fighters to be on the card.
