Cryptocurrency - a few tips from an old hand

Im starting to hear more and more negative stuff on Ripple... Along with the positive too admittedly.

Interesting read. And LONG, if you can sit through it.

Inflated market cap. It's the story for many cryptocurrencies. People best choose wisely and get out before they're left holding the bag- because someone's gonna have to. I learned my lesson with Vericoin. I probably spent a hundred hours to make a couple hundred dollars after holding during and well after the peak(the double top never came- well 3 years later and for no apparent reason). The guys behind it were college underclassmen who sold a lot of hope and dreams but failed to do anything else. Their marketing was okay. The website was decent. But ultimately they weren't out to do shit except make money pumping and dumping their coins as the biggest bagholders are capable of doing. What's funny is that in mid-2017 when basically every cryptocurrency became a $100m market cap, the devs "returned." Presumably to dump the rest of their useless coins that sat around in various wallets and exchanges.

The alt wave is too bumpy, far too up n down. You could literally spin a wheel and invest in any random currency these past few months and make money but it's nothing new, I've seen this exact scenario many many times. There will be 80% price crashes. There will be exchange and wallet hacks. There will be pump n dump groups who end up dumping on people in their own groups. While XRP has gained notoriety, and shockingly even mainstream praise, it began life as a scam coin and the fact that the team still controls over half the supply should be terrifying to anyone holding a significant amount.

My advice: invest with your mind and don't risk more than you can afford to lose. If it doesn't feel right get the hell out. If you invest in a coin with no public dev team(Bitcoin being the only exception) you deserve to get burned.

P.s. The biggest thing any of you investing good money into this can do is to go to Bitcointalk.org under the Alternative cryptocurrencies sub-forum, then go under both the Altcoin discussion and Announcements (Altcoins) sub-forum, and spend the time to find and read through the hundreds of official altcoin threads. You can learn the history of the beginnings of every single altcoin and you'll see why I say that 99% of coins are scams. The [ANN] Ripple thread will probably make you sick.

Ethos 2 dollars when i first spotted it....now 10 dollars!!!! Worth investing in still you think or have i missed the boat??

Still worth it. I'm not an oracle or anything, but many see it reaching 100 dollars by the end of the year.

Newb here. I consider myself tech and information (moderately) savy, but with crypto, it's just so overwhelming. So my post will probably contain a couple of stupid questions.

@Nik123 , what are your thoughts on Raiblocks (XRB)? Made a decision to buy it when it was 10$, but that was my first time on anything crypto related and i got lost in the sea of information so I gave up. It bumped to 32$ in the next few days. Tried to buy then, but my bank didn't approve the transaction, probably due to my fault. Probably for the better, as there was a slight dump in the few following days. Is this, in your opinion, a solid base for a crypto, considering there are countries that currently have discussions about banning mining?

Raiblocks has had a massive pump recently and has a fairly large market cap. I would not buy in now.

Look for undervalued projects - my picks are Ethos (still undervalued imo), Power Ledger, and (hitting the market in Feb) - Bit Degree.

I made a small $250 investment in Ripple last night. $2.38 was the price I paid. I was waiting for a dip but got in patient. Current price is about $2.20. Transfered my Bitcoin ( only $60 worth ) to get some more. Bitcoin fees took almost half of that $60 ..

Has anyone here sold a full Bitcoin before .. what are the fees on it ? Its great if the coin is worth 15K not so great if it cost thousands in a trade.

As for the poster sking about Coin base. $250 is max for first time members. If you send your currency to another wallet it could take up to 72 hours for your first transaction. After that it is relatively fast.

Do you know where I can convert ethereum into ethos (or buy ethos directly) other than binance (currently closed)?
I've checked kucoin and cryptopia but it seems like they don't have it

Transfer fees are fixed. If you sent $2 or $1000, it's the same amount. That's why it was so much. You should have sent more to make it worthwhile.

Selling fees on Coinbase are a percentage of what you're trying to sell. I think it's 3%.

I think I was able to register on binance.com just now. Anyone else?

PRL for best chance at high gainz. A sleeping giant. Buying now is one of those opportunities for moon $$$, opportunities which are increasingly rare and may almost be gone.

I have read today that Binance and Coin Base are both open again for new registrations.

Thanks for the info. I sent what was in my account that I had sitting there for 2 or 3 years.

Good news is suppose to hit for Ripple on the 11th and then the 14th. Its currently dipping to $1.90 per ripple. I am buying a few more tomorrow once my transfer go through.

PRL is decent - but I typically prefer to enter a small cap at a price point below a 100m market cap.

Which is why I suggest BDG (soon to hit the market, and frankly if it works it has a more powerful use case - changing the education system....vs blocking browser ads).

Not to say you won’t make huge gains off PRL, but I’ve got other targets.

Your loss. I'll check out BDG.

Perhaps, but that’s what this game is about. Educated choices. Cool, do check out BDG - it’s got serious backing.

Yeah I took a look and it looks nice. You say the token will be on exchanges in February?

Power ledger is a great idea but like you sayd.. need lower cap.

Yeah, they haven’t given an exact date but expect late Jan/early Feb. There’s a lot of pent up demand for this one and it’s a long term hold so worth keeping a close eye.

Pent up demand you say?? Heh. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks :)

Fair enough. Don’t get me wrong though, I try and balance between large, mid and low market caps. My large to mid are already in place so now I’m hunting for low caps.
