Sherdog is the most trusted source on these news tbh. We were very early to call it a pandemic that was obviously going to be a big deal. We were also early in calling the government overreach and lockdowns unjustified power grabs and totalitarianism. The lockdowns have not been proven effective in any sense (comparing countries with lockdowns to countries without lockdowns), and the fatality rate is hugely blown up in mainstream media. Sherdog wins again.

That's just not true. There are a lot of variables yes, but countries that locked down early with only a few cases have generally done better than other similar countries that did not. The lockdowns also curbed the exponential rise in hospitalizations after the fact in the places hardest hit.

It might have been an overreach, but saying that lockdowns didn't help isn't supported by the evidence. You also didn't answer the question earlier. How are you calculating the IFR in Sweden when you are saying that it's lower than the flu?
 
Wad note: Sweden uses "died with the virus" rather than "died of the virus" which is an important distinction to make. All in all very sensible guidelines from the health authorities and no significant impeding of civil liberties. Quite ironic from an otherwise authoritarian society like Sweden, but good on them.

Summary:

  • As of April 21st, 1,765 people have died with the coronavirus in Sweden.
  • Since the start of the outbreak, 1,158 people have been in intensive care, which also includes fatalities and patients who have recovered and been discharged. A total of 533 people are currently in intensive care for the virus.
  • There have been 15,322 confirmed cases of the coronavirus as of April 21st (up from 14,777 the day before).
  • The Swedish government has announced that testing will be ramped up to reach 50,000-100,000 tests per week, with a focus on people in key roles such as police officers and emergency responders.
  • Everyone in Sweden is urged to stay at home if they are at all sick (even a mild cough or sore throat), practice social distancing, avoid non-essential travel within the country, work from home if possible, follow good hygiene practices, and avoid non-essential visits to elderly people or hospitals.
  • People aged over 70 or in risk groups are advised to avoid social contact as much as possible. These are Sweden's official recommendations to reduce the spread of the virus.
Has Stockholm reached its peak? The Public Health Agency presented a new modelling of the spread of the coronavirus in the Swedish capital at today's press conference, which is based both on reported cases as well as random testing which took place in the city in early April.

According to the statisticians who worked on the model, most new cases were reported in Stockholm on April 15th. By May 1st, the model suggests that a third of the city's residents will have had the infection.

"The peak may have been reached just under a week ago, according to this model, and then we can expect fewer cases per day," explained deputy state epidemiologist Anders Wallensten. He added that this does not mean people should take a more relaxed attitude to the country's guidance on reducing the spread of infection.

Yea I knew exactly what you meant. I had a friend who was big but I also wouldn't say he was obese. When he told me that his doctor said he was it surprised me cause it's not what I imagined when someone says obese.

Just like the flu, this mostly fucks up old and sick people.

We need to open shit up again and do what we can do isolate and protect the vunerable.
