NY-NJ metro covid19 deaths = 31,000
Rest of nation covid19 deaths = 31,000

Covid-19 deaths per capita disparity between NYC metro and the rest of nation is beyond explanation.
Not saying the numbers are cooked but man that disparity tho.

Can't wait for my area of the country to be the last to reopen because we share a border with NY.

What we should be doing at this point is experimenting with opening on a county to county basis. There are numerous counties in NY state that are between 0 and 5 deaths. So you can imagine how frustrated people far from NYC metro are. We have become post-geographical in some really Faustian ways. We are seeing a complete collapse of geographical-spatial reality, in large part due to the internet. Our current response to this exact situation if it were happening 50 years ago would have been unthinkable, not to mention if this were 150 years ago. Arkansas didn't shut down all commerce because of yellow fever outbreaks on the east coast. And we have had time to gauge the effect of this virus. Three months in it is become exceedingly obvious that the virulency of this virus is primarily a function population density.
