Could you take CM Punk?

You think anyone on Sherdog could take one of these bad boys and live to tell about it? Not even John Cena could handle a GTS and he NEVER GIVES UP

Lol THAT is his wrasslin finishing move? How do you jump from a ladder and fall through a table, or take a chair shot, but then get "KOd" from getting tossed forward a few feet?

And no...most Sherdoggers would do nuttin. Just because Punk shouldn't be fighting pro, doesn't mean he's a helpless bum. I don't believe most Sherdoggers actually train.

In a fight maybe not (I'm no striker and he's probably stronger than I am), but after seeing his BJJ in action, I have little doubt I'd handle him on the ground in a grappling match. I'm just a purple belt but I don't think he's even blue belt level from what I saw here:

He leaves a ton of space when he transitions to mount or back, his "seat belt" control from the back looks loose, and he wasn't controlling with his hooks when he had the back. Not to mention he simply looked hesitant and appeared to lack confidence in executing the moves right away.

haha, sorry dude; I think most of the posts ITT are serious, so it's hard to tell sometimes

It's k dude, I usually refrain from making jokes like that because of the delusion on sherdog can make it seem sincere

I've seen him working those pads. No power.

I've seen his high center of gravity and no TDD.

I'm not impressed.

I have power in my hands. Would still lose but could knock him the fuck out if I connect.

Considering there were no table spots or ladders in the match it's a fine finish.

CM Punk just came out of a professional MMA training camp where he was trained by great coaches and trained with several high level mixed martial artists. Unless you're some sort of long time devoted MMA guy, i don't see why you think you would beat him.

I've been doing BJJ for around 9 years on and off and am a decent boxer. Took karate as a kid at a mcdojo too.

Punk trained for 2 years nonstop 24/7 at an elite gym with a lot of personal attention and he is even...

Fair enough, maybe he will look great on fight night and I'll gladly retract my statement. Based on what was shown of him in the promos only he looked really bad though. In the first one where he is pretty new I think I genuinely could handle him.

If you're a purple belt you would school him on the ground like butter, hes definitely a certified white belt. Pretty sure Gall is a purple belt, and for the record Gall would kick my ass.

Yeah, I could beat him. Got way more training under me than he has. You go into just about any half-decent gym and you'll find loads of lower level guys who would be the favorite to beat him.

And no, training with Duke Rofus for 18 months or whatever hasn't made Punk some sort of killer.

Punk has been training full time, but a lot of that has probably just trying to get into fighting shape doing excercises and not real MMA training.

With a 2-week camp, I'd gorilla press him over and out of the cage, onto the announcers' table.

In a straight up striking match? Yup, probably. Been doing muay thai and kickboxing for way longer than he has and I'm quite a bit bigger than he is.
He'd likely school me on the ground though, since my submission skills (or submission defence for that matter) likely aren't anywhere near good enough.

I can't even take Bethe Correia. I gassed hard after shadowboxing at the end of the Lamas Holloway fight when I tried to mimic their final flurry.

I could take him.

But I would never want to be an MMA fighter.

Yes

And some other fighters too
