Media Cory says Merab's takedown spam is a way to game the system

The bantamweights aren't well rounded. They're either skinny strikers like Sean or Cory or the just worse wrestlers like Umar, both situations play into Merab's favor.

I'll argue that guys like O'Malley and Sandhagen are doing themselves a disservice by being nearly 6' tall yet staying skinny enough to make 135 without dying.

They will always be physically weaker than the stockier guys so they have to either have a great guard game or be able to stay on their feet and use their length. Merab showed neither could do that.

They would still be tall for 145 and if they actually built a 145 body they would probably have more success there IMO.

I don't think he's that risk averse. He showboats and he willingly allowed Umar to get up many times despite the striking danger. Also the crazy/stupid stuff he does in his life he doesn't really seem to think about avoiding risks all that much. He just enjoys taking people down and outworking them it seems.

That’s a fair point. Khamzat showed us what that actually means. Should have said it’s his cardio combined with the ruleset that has made him seemingly unbeatable.

I don't want to see another of this dwarf's fights again. Hills Have Eyes looking mofo needs to use that cardio to finish his opponents, or at the very least fucking HURT them bad. But that's my issue with the diddy man weight class in general I suppose; these guys are so small with such weak arms it's all pitter patter.

Fuck that shit.
He dropped Corey standing, the only significant damaging moment of the fight, he finished O'Maller with a North South (first in title history) last fight.
He's improving in that aspect.

Yeah, this the problem. A world class grappler is always going to have an advantage over a world class striker under the current ruleset and asking the striker to become a world class grappler also, just to compete, is unfair and unrealistic. Maybe that would be desirable if spam wrestling made for a more entertaining sport but it doesn't.
Oddly enough, the fight starts standing. As does every subsequent round. You aren't asking the striker to become a world class grappler, only to train enough to attempt to mitigate some of the grappling, just like the grappler has to learn some striking and defensive striking.

Corey had ample opportunities to hurt Merab. He didn't.

I do hope you are right. But only time will tell.
One of the beautiful parts of this sport is watching it evolve!

Thank god. What if every round started on your knees lol, that would royally suck, would not watch.
The Gracies: "Why didn't we think of that?"

I mean it is a good way to game the decision system of the sport. But it also requires SUBSTANTIAL cardio reserves to execute it. So it's not like this is something anyone can exploit. Pretty much only Merab is able to do it at that level.

I said to end the 5th. Cory caught him and Merab is moving away as the time ticks down. Do you know what "to end" means? The last 15 seconds he is backing up against the cage with Cory walking him down like this

Same way O'Malley was walking him down after the teep to end the first fight. Just saying its pretty ironic for Mr. I could go 1000 rounds to be the one on his bike to end these dominant decision wins right?
Is it? He got stung by one shot and disengaged from his opponent. If there was a minute left on the fight as opposed to a few seconds we would have just seen him do the exact same thing he did to Cory all fight long - molest him.

game the system? lmao. i guess if "gaming the system" means you're a better fighter, sure. i don't know why he's worried about the takedowns anyway, those just sealed the deal, the fight was over after Merab NEARLY KNOCKED YOU OUT ON THE FEET CORY.
