This frees Cory to do risky and damaging techniques, like flying knees

Assuming 4 flying knees per minute, factoring in get-up time in-between Merab's takedowns, that's a whopping 100 flying knees over a 25 minute fight

Statistically speaking, one of them is bound to land right on the button

It's good and bad, you can plant to throw your shots and still be fleet of foot though. If Sandhagen can't get Merab's respect he's going to get walked through all night and taken down.

He could potentially just rip the ligaments in merab's leg the way he did to TJ. As good as merab's wrestling is, he hasn't shown much actual mat grappling. Corey's guard is legit, so i wonder I merab will even attempt to get control time in down there. Probably not. The huge height difference on the feet makes it interesting, too.

I believe Cory can win, has shown heaps of improvement in his fight against Song and Chito.
However, his stance switching will make him super vulnerable to Merabs takedowns, you can't bring your feet together like he did against Chito and get away with it against a good wrestler.

He got him down twice. The first time was for like 20 seconds and TJ was on the defence against Cory's subs while the second time was also 20 second seconds with no damage. All the other times which were via the spins TJ couldn't get him down only hold him against the fence. Cory probably wasn't expecting a wrestling game from TJ but he will def be expecting it against Merab.

This example may turn out bad but Jamahal Hill got outgrappled and taken down by Santos five plus times in their fight and in his very next fight he nullified Glovers grappling completely. It could be a similar situation with Cory, who will be expecting merab to shoot 20+ takedowns.
