So it took Trump 6 weeks to declare a National Emergency after the initial Health Emergency was issued on January 31, 2020

But it took Obama 6 months to declare a National Emergency on October 24, 2009 after the initial Health Emergency was issued on April 26, 2009

And mind you, Obama didn't call the Swine Flu a National Emergency until millions were already sick and well over 1,000 had died. ;)

What Trump hasn't done:
  • Arranged enough testing for people with early symptoms
  • Bolstered the supply chain for diagnostic testing
  • Expediently move to expand testing outside of the CDC
  • Allowed officials in Seattle to test for Coronavirus early in the outbreak
  • Continue funding for the NSC's Global Health office, which would have coordinated response for global pandemics
  • Accept tests that were offered from the WHO
  • Listened to any actual experts in global health or disease control

What Trump has done:
  • Claimed that the outbreak is contained, when it was actively spreading
  • Claimed that he knows more about Coronavirus than doctors, and that they are asking him for advice
  • Fired the entire Pandemic Response Chain of Command, including the White House team that coordinated response activities
  • Proposed more cuts to the HHS and CDC, including reductions in the Infectious Diseases Rapid Response Reserve on Feb 11, well after the nature of the outbreak was known
  • Claimed that Coronavirus treatment would be covered without copays (insurers agreed to waive copays for testing procedures only)
  • Claimed that the mortality rate is a fraction of a percent, without any evidence other than his "hunch"
  • Claimed testing was available for everybody, when it wasn't
  • Claimed a vaccine was close to being available, and nothing is close to being past clinical trials yet
  • Claimed that the situation in Italy was getting better, when it wasn't
  • Suggested that an affected cruise ship would be ordered to stay off shore
  • Claimed that falling gas prices due to travel and economic reductions in fuel demand were "like a tax cut"
  • Gave an absolute disaster of an Oval Office address, where he was comically underprepared and mis-stated his own administration's policies, actually increasing investor anxiety
  • Failed to articulate the scope of his own travel ban, causing a panic at airports
  • Giving unprepared comments during his address that suggested that trade from Europe would be banned as well
  • Blamed Obama
