Just noticed that only the people who owe child support are not getting relief checks. While a part of me gets that, it also seems like a bad policy in an emergency. You're hurting their financial stability, which will lead to less ability to pay. Thoughts?

Tough, depends on how much they are owing. If it's a small amount they shouldn't be punished but if they are at deadbeat levels then their habits aren't changing whether they have the funds to support their family or not.

Plus, this isn't a replacement for the flu. It's on top of it. No connection. You didn't see people saying after 9/11, "well, fuck it. More people die from the flu every year so let's not do anything."

Jack you had to realize there were gonna be large numbers of people denying the severity of this once it took off in the country. There is a reason anti intellectual, anti science populism is on the rise. There is a reason it’s sitting in the White House as we speak. This was building for decades in America. Even an event like this can’t bring the country together. We’re gonna have the longest recovery in America because of it.

Wasn't the media telling him(federal government) to shut down all them rascally states?

My recollection is when asked if there was a directive from the federal government to different states on whether to shut down Trump implied those choices were in the hands of the individual states as circumstances are varying. Now the message is state's need to approach the shutdown however Trump decides which is different approach entirely so there's some confusion on what is actually the case.

No more so than throwing them in jail for not being able to pay.

So pay your child support.

Even in that case, why not give some relief? Say, half. The owed parent is getting their check(s) on top of it fwiw.

Glad we have the best handling this.
