You get South Korea being able to mount a far better response to a pandemic than the world's supposedly eminent first world power.

There's a big difference between 0.1% and 1%. He gives a range, but the estimates I've seen put it at more like 1%. That is of course a serious matter with global impact, as is how such a pandemic is handled given the potential for something worse to come along.

They can call it a national emergency and dip into the Pentagon funds. But that means they would have to change the narrative of what's going on and admit the severity of the issue which could cause the stock market to crash. That's why cutting the CDC funding and being ill-prepared is such a bad love and short term thinking. They've essentially cornered themselves into implementing reactionary measures without proper planning and trying to control the messaging. It's confused mess at the moment with the U.S government when S. Korea and Japan have been proactive with their testing and they are way more organized.
