Law Coronavirus the US GOV'T Response analysis Thread v2

The point is that it doesn't make sense to lock up the vast majority of people who are not at risk, but it makes sense to protect nursing homes
Yeah - I’m in favor of opening things up but just done extremely safely: masks, distancing...etc. I find it concerning that the perception is this is very much a senior problem. 100k+ deaths in two and a half months whilst undergoing extreme distancing measures - nothing to scoff at. The “it’s mostly seniors” angle also completely ignores the long lasting, possibly permanent, health issues folks who’ve recovered are now facing. Lots of people are at-risk and some don’t even know it.

The lockdowns did nothing to stop the spread, they were completely useless and tyrannical. No justification for those. We completely ruined the world economy for nothing.

The "possibly permanent health issues" thing is a hype and borderline fake news. Vast majority of people have either no symptoms or very mild symptoms, and no lasting issues.

According to experts and science, advanced age is the most relevant risk factor. A lot more relevant than any other risk factor by far. Thus, it makes sense for elderly to be bit careful.

What is your evidence that the lockdowns didn't prevent spread? We know of specific instances where a bunch of people in a small space got infected like on a cruise ship, it seems to make logical sense that people being spread out would greatly decrease transmission.

Lockdowns didn't prevent people from spreading it

Unless you are talking about Wuhan style apartment welding

I can’t tell if this satire at this point.

We didn’t have many cases of coronavirus in my state until well after lockdown began. All of our nursing homes and assisted living facilities got infected after.

if we look at the daily death charts in florida, a state that closed late and opened early, it's not immediately apparent when the lockdowns started and stopped

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/usa/florida/

staying indoors is the main method of this virus spreading

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.04.04.20053058v1
Home outbreaks were the dominant category (254 of 318 outbreaks; 79.9%), followed by transport (108; 34.0%; note that many outbreaks involved more than one venue category). Most home outbreaks involved three to five cases. We identified only a single outbreak in an outdoor environment, which involved two cases. Conclusions: All identified outbreaks of three or more cases occurred in an indoor environment, which confirms that sharing indoor space is a major SARS-CoV-2 infection risk.

of course, this wont stop the news from shaming the beachgoers

This could still be a good argument for stopping large indoor gatherings like crowded restaurants or sports games couldn't it? We saw what happened with cruise ships.

That could just be a product of time, the virus is going to continue to multiply with time even in a lockdown
