Law Coronavirus the US GOV'T Response analysis Thread v2

Dude, if it were a fact that the same number of people will get the virus regardless, I wouldn't give a shit about lockdown or not. It's totally killing my business so if all I cared about was money I'd be all for ending shut downs immediately. But the fact is, going back to business as usual and allowing more large outbreaks will result in unnecessary illness and death, and all the knock on consequences they entail.

Regionally, we locked down hard and early and now we're already on the way to stepwise re-opening of the economy. In my province, there were no deaths from this virus. If we're careful to prevent future outbreaks until effective treatment and/or a vaccine is available, we will avoid many unnecessary deaths. It's definitely worth it to be cautious.

The people campaigning for immediate end to lockdowns are saying money is more important that the lives of human beings. Literally.
Goood gooood.... bleat more, little subject... goood..... let the agenda flow through you....

Some posters are having irrational fear while others push brou science videos. There are actual scientists who question the lockdown.

We can't wait for a vaccine, that might not even work, we need young people out and about getting infected and creating immunity. This virus with time will become just a regular flu because of our immune system.

UK policy on lockdown and other European countries are not evidence-based.

The correct policy is to protect the old and the frail only.

This will eventually lead to herd immunity as a “by-product."

The initial UK response, before the “180 degree U-turn”, was better.

The Imperial College paper was “not very good” and he has never seen an unpublished paper have so much policy impact.

The paper was very much too pessimistic.

Any such models are a dubious basis for public policy anyway.

The flattening of the curve is due to the most vulnerable dying first as much as the lockdown.

The results will eventually be similar for all countries.

Covid-19 is a “mild disease” and similar to the flu, and it was the novelty of the disease that scared people.

The actual fatality rate of Covid-19 is the region of 0.1%.

At least 50% of the population of both the UK and Sweden will be shown to have already had the disease when mass antibody testing becomes available.

There are also appropriate levels of caution. Shutting down the world was not an appropriate level of caution.

Also, without being able to test the entire world, you're basically just sitting and waiting for the government man on the TV to tell you you're safe. Have you ever thought about how irrational that is? I mean let's face it, they're going to open back up without actually knowing how many infected are still out there, since testing the entire world, or even an entire country, is not realistic. For the majority of people, they're going to be in as much of the dark now, as they will be when they're told to get back out there, and the only reasoning they will have for feeling secure, is that the government man on the TV told them it's okay now.

Very happy Georgia's numbers have yet to spike after the reckless reopening. The majority of Georgian's disapproved of the Governor's illogical reopening and so likely continued to practice social distancing. Could still spike in the next few weeks but for now relieved and happy for the people of Georgia. Hopefully the first wave is on the ebb. Reprehensible the governor rolled the dice on people's lives and offered no logical reasoning for his reopen orders.

As a bonus it allowed me to goad Obamaphonelady into being banned. Let that be a warning to all those that would cross the line from cheeky trolling into indecency.

In places significantly far along the other side of the curve, gradually opening things back up and taking appropriate action when new cases arise is fine. Ignoring public health measures entirely and gathering in large groups to protest the shut downs is not fine. Reopening quickly while community spread is still prevalent is stupid and irresponsible. That's not an appropriate level of caution.

Are front line workers who have to ride in packed subways everyday to get to their job also part of the problem? Are they not also ignoring public health guidelines, by gathering in big groups every single day, regardless of how necessary it might be? 'Cause I'm pretty sure that has done more to spread the virus than a few hundred or even thousand people participating in protests every once in a while.

Which is why we remain in lockdown for now

I can't help but notice it is all white people doing this. I don't usually like bringing up race but are white people more susceptible to believing in conspiracies?

@HereticBD, it's hard to take you seriously on the subject of rationality when you are so biased in favor of Trump you took him took him at his word that his musings about bleach drinking were sarcastic. Really gave your credibility a huge hit (not that you were credible in my eyes, although seeing you float conspiracy theories is a sad devolution even for you).

Miss your boy obamaphonelady yet? It's a nice scalp hanging from my belt. Easy win. Pushed him into the banhammer lulz. He gone. ahaha

What are the rest of the people packing the subways doing there? Your reasoning is just plain bad.

It's all white people doing this because all the black people are working because they have to, getting sick, and dying, if I were to hazard a guess.

Your a ruthless little cunt @Drunken Angel but I've got no time for grasses.

@Queen B yeah Wisconsin is fucked. Don't misconstrue my comment as anti-lockdown. I called the reopening irrational and mercenary in my comment. I was just expressing a measured relief there's been no spike as of yet while conceding there could well be next week. I noted the majority of Georgians disagreed with lifting restrictions according to polling so perhaps the majority continued to shelter in place and practice social distancing. Likely the reason for the steady numbers.
