Thank god the Russian government realized hundreds of lives were at stake and asked for help from other non-communist countries. Their embarrassment wasn't a concern, but the lives of their citizens.

They have quarantined and basically shut down two cities in China where the majority of cases are. As much as the China haters would like to deny it, China learned a lot from SARS and have taken measures to try to contain the spread. Of course that won’t be good enough for people that will always have their biases against them, you and I both know that.

The virus is already pretty much everywhere in China. At this point, all they can do is slow its spread down.

It’s just more shit for people to get panicking about. This will pass and be forgotten. I’ve gotten the flu several times, and guess what? I’m still here. Don’t hear people calling me a dirty, white Canadian or any of that kind of shit.

Not sure if you've seen this. This guy leaked how crowded the hospitals are, and how people are not getting the chance to get treated for their sickness due to not having a quarantine certificate. You even see a nurse getting infected. I heard the story regarding this is that their asking the nurse to fall in line just like everybody else so that she can get her treatment:

- It's not comparable to a flu for ncov doesn't have a vaccine yet and it's now close to being considered a pandemic by the WHO. they estimate that it's going to be months before a vaccine is made
- ncov cases over the world has overtaken that of the SARS. take note that SARS lasted for eight months, as compared to ncov that has only been around since December
- ncov has 5days incubation period. people can be infected without knowing it and is spreading the disease further
- people can argue that it is treatable, but this is highly contagious and it's overwhelming hospitals in China and not everyone is getting treated
- there are other strong arguments online showing that the death rate is worse for ncov, but i don't think i'd do justice explaining it so feel free to search for it online
- you surviving several flus just like anybody else doesn't justify why ncov should be ignored

I think it's reasonable for people to be worried now. And just because some people don't want to get near Chinese people nowadays doesn't mean their hateful or racist. Hell even if you're not Chinese and you cough and sneeze in a crowd of people, you'd see people move away from you. There's even a joke that this is the only time coughing and sneezing is worse than farting in a crowd. :D

I don’t really see your point. Never said it should be ignored, but it’s not the end of the world by any means either.

Lots of people never get flu vaccines either. Just saying.

Worried, yes. Panicked, no. At least not anymore than any other flu, which are just as lethal or more so than this or SARS.

Now MERS is one I’d be way more concerned about if it happened to spread further. Funny enough I’ve never heard of it until this came up.

Also, most people (80% I think is the figure) who died are 60 and older, and 75% of those had pre existing health conditions like heart conditions.

Trying not to be too concerned about this but when you see a young healthy Dr die as a result of the virus is a bit concerning. I know he was the whistle blower but he's young and strong and has access to the best available medical professionals around.

holy shiet, well sadly we cannot speculate on such a serious number as the number of deceased, this has to be confirmed by chinese authorities, but gotta say that 24k sounds way more realistic

Yes, like those people also can't believe the entire country of China (1.38 Billion) only had 57 deaths due to the flu in 2018, and 48 deaths in 2019.

Meanwhile, the USA has 12,000 deaths by the flu on the best recent year, the worst year was 80,000 deaths, but an average year is around 56,000.
