Test kits are just now being developed lots of places, so only people repatriated back from China are being tested (and acquaintances tracked). There's pretty much literally no way to know what is already occurring due to lack of testing, wide range of symptoms, and overlap with regular flu.

People in Wuhan are being arrested for reporting what's actually happening (going against the party line) and there are virtually no reporters in the field. Here's an account from a lawyer reporting from ground zero:

Is this disease a death sentence if you get it?
No, it hasn't been particulary deady (yet, long term effects are unknown). It's the extreme rate of infection which is the largest concern. Doctors are getting sick, hospitals are having trouble keeping up, and massive cities are under quarantine. The cities look like ghost towns with people kept inside.

I just had the stomach flu and it was the sickest that I've been in years. First few hours were all puking and that was followed for the next few hours by constant diarrhea. Following that, I had the worst body aches, fever, cold chills, etc. while still having a bit of diarrhea. It was so bad that I couldn't sleep or even concentrate to watch TV. Over those two days, I ate two pieces of toast and a banana. The third day I started to get better, but my stomach could barely handle anything still.

That's the type of sickness that's been going around here. They even closed a school all week since 20% of the students/staff were out sick on Monday. More were getting sick at school that day too, so they said fuck this!

Seems like the typical reaction to a meal at Taco Bell.

We should do a head count.

Are you assholes still here?

I was in eye emergency in Sydney today when a suspected case came through. Luckily I was with the doctor at the time so a nurse shut the door before they went past but my mother was out in the waiting room, it could already have her (and thus me) as we speak.

I suspect at this stage the mortality rate might be overestimated as you probably have a lot of cases in Wuhan were people have picked it up but gotten over it without needing medical treatment and haven't reported it.

Probably not a good one. You can't model that well a jump to another country.
i agree, that's true. i'm thinking it will mostly stay in China and possibly poorer countries. I think some of the more developed countries have a way better head start on it (due to better public health systems and mostly the advantage of awareness). But, there's still unaccounted cases in a lot of countries if I had to guess.

First death reported outside China

Very true and as long as the awareness is there in the population at large then it’s a good thing to keep people on track taking measures to reduce the spread.

Yes sir agreed.
here's the latest data of total confirmed cases. Actually a little higher than I thought it would be.
1-29:7,711
1-30: 9,692 (1981 new cases from previous day)
1-31: 11,791 (2099 new cases from previous day)
2-1: 14,380 (I had it around 12K cases after 2-1) (2589 new cases from previous day)

I'm wondering if reporting is becoming a little more efficient than previous days/weeks, to explain the linear spike in new cases. So many variables it's hard to know for sure.

Addition: 180 cases outside of China totaling 26 additional countries)

Posted this is war room.

again, very sad for chinese son on phone. Internet love to him and a prayer for the deceased.

It's when they start tearing their way out of the body-bags you have to be worried...

Lol you guys and you wanna be apocalypse nerds.

I hope you guys are all safe but you know most of you are just amping things up for the thrill off it.

If anyone was really shitting themselves they shouldn't be posting here.

Just curious, did your immune system got stronger after going through that experience?

I believe that was the last time I had the stomach flu or illness that severe. But funny enough, this past month I had been sick with some sort of bacterial/sinus infection for at least 3 weeks.

So it seems I only get really ill every 3-5 years. Whether that's a strong immune system, I am more careful with my diet or the fact that I live in (roughly) Northern Ontario, Canada and the climate/geographic location kind of protects me from most of the shit gestating in large urban areas, I don't know.

From speaking with a friend who is a virologist, a strong immune system will most certainly aid you in fighting off a viral/bacterial infection. From my limited understanding, the generations of mutation will also play a part in how "new" the virus is and whether your body is "equipped" to fight the virus.

I believe the fear most virologists have is a virus will eventually mutate that not only has high transference rate, but also carries a high mortality rate with it.

"Game over, man! Game over!"

That was HepC until a few years ago. I believe it had a transposone that the mutated every 3 weeks of something like that.
