Cormier Was Dominating Jon Jones Before the Headkick

Agreed in regards that since DC started late he does not have as much wear and tear. However, it is impossible to be in your athletic prime at 40 (39) without TRT.

Naturally DC is going to say that he is in his prime as he doesn't want to convince himself that he has lost a step.

DC, like Yoel, are freaks of nature. That being said, if they got into MMA at 20 and bypassed the Olympic experience, they would have accomplished way more in the sport -- I think that is pretty much closed for debate, no? If JBJ went the wrestling route, then transitioned to MMA in his 30's, he too would have been successful but would have not been the fighter he is today.

These people seem to think your average 47 year old dude is still in his athletic prime as long as he sat on his ass his whole life. Damage or not it doesn't work that way.

It's hard to say whether DC or Yoel would've been so much better though. It would certainly seem to be the case but it also appears that athletic specimens peak a lot earlier (GSP, Jones, and Aldo all won or challenged for the title at 23 years old) while more finesse based fighters who don't have that overwhelming strength and speed naturally peak a bit later (Anderson, Conor somewhat).

DC and Yoel certainly would have had a longer reign at/near the top, no doubt.

No he wasn't the first two rounds were very close. I had it 1-1 going into the third.

Hey bruh, I'm no hater and fan of neither. DC is a 40 year old man and was in his prime last decade. You had it 1-1, fine. I even stated it could be 0-2 JBJ; it was an amazingly close fight.

The only problem I have with Jon, and amazingly talented fighters like prime GSP, MM & Andy, is that they don't push themselves, take on challenges and opt to fluff their records by defending against inferior fighters. It's no wonder that Conor is getting 100 mil while JBJ is making 500k; even if you lose, people want to see super fights and talent be pushed to the limit. If u wanna waste time on Brock vs Jon, be my guest, but it is a shite fight and we all know that.

Take your so called MMA elitist mindset and shove it up your ass idiot. Conor is fighting Mayweather in a BOXING match.

At least Jones is fighting Lesnar in MMA which is a superfight. You do know that this would be a superfight right? You idiot. Jones just came back from a year laid off with two years of not being champion and yet he destroyed the champion so now it is time for him to make some money as well. He has that division on lock because there is no one that can beat him at the moment.

Cormier was soundly up 2.5 rounds against the apparent "GOAT" before he got nailed by a lucky head kick

Jon Jones is no Cro Cop. That was not his signature move. He swung for the fences and got lucky something landed, Cormier wins that fight 9/10.
cormier, you should be resting from getting your brain scrambled, what are you doing on the internet.

Why is anyone hating on either fighters' performance?

It was a great fight. I just wish DC was a younger man and that it had been a trilogy.

Wholly agreed.

I think it has a lot to do with damage and wear and tear sustained from training, not to mention the mental fatigue from doing the same job again and again for years : kinda like when you start a job it is exciting and your brain is receptive to learning new things, but after there for a while, that fire dissipates. Aldo is a great example, as he just seems to have lost that fire, tho his physical gifts are still there.

In regards to DC, I think for him to have been most successful, he should have gone to MMA following Oklahoma and fought in his natural weight class, 183 (or 185 in MMA). People give him a raw deal but I truly do think he is probably the most gifted P4P fighter ever. Seeing him vs Jones was like a man fighting a midget. It's absolutely remarkable that he can even compete with these guys that have a foot reach on him and half a foot in height. I think we are all in agreement that if DC was 6'4 and had an 85 inch reach, he would eat Jon and every HW for breakfast with ease. Sadly, a lot of these details get lost and people just want to kick a man while he's down and mock the fact that he lost.

I thought Jones won the first round.

And he was winning the third. He landed like 20 unanswered kicks to start the round

I had it 2-0 Cormier because of how Cormier ended Round 1 by knocking out Jones' mouthpiece with that hard uppercut.

Round 1 was close, but I thought Cormier took it at the end.

Sounds good especially considering Jones lost his mouth piece in the very first minute of the fight.

you and the commentary team last night are blind as fuck and don't know wtf yall are watching

it was competitive sure, but DC was either down 2-0 or at best 1-1.

He ended the first round well and landed some good shots on Jones, but Jones volume and accuracy had him ahead all night.

Not even close. The judges had the fight even going into the third round. And one judge had Jones up two rounds. And Jones was dominating the entire third round before the head kick. Daniel was clearly getting tired from the bodywork.

DC was landing better than Jones for sure.

I give DC the firsts rounds. Also, DC cardio looked good, and Jones looked exhausted.

Did you see the punch that landed late in the round that seemed to dislodge Jones' mouthpiece?

That was a very hard shot by Cormier.

Judges score in different ways, for different things. I have always scored fights more towards the agressor who is coming forward and landing the harder shots.

A person landing pitty-pat low leg kicks while in retreat is many times not going to get the benefit from the judges when facing someone who is walking him down and landing bigger strikes.

Yeah yeah he was winning right up until he got headkicked and had his skull pounded on until he was almost dead.

Yeah, it was a tremendous fight. DC's fierceness of competition brings out the worst in people as they want to rub it in. It's all very ugly.

What's lost on them is he got into MMA to battle the immense depression of his daughter dying. He exceeded everyone's expectations ten fold and did what no other man on the planet could, & did so way past his athletic prime, in his late 30's. Even the fact he is at LHW is a touching story in itself, as he was dominating at HW, won the most prestigious heavyweight tourney in history, but wanted the most challenging feat in MMA (a fight with Jones) and refused to fight his teammate, Cain. People like ignoring the fact McGregor has a two inch reach on DC, Jones has a foot reach on him, and DC is at most a natural MW (the weight he wrestled at).
