Agreed in regards that since DC started late he does not have as much wear and tear. However, it is impossible to be in your athletic prime at 40 (39) without TRT.
Naturally DC is going to say that he is in his prime as he doesn't want to convince himself that he has lost a step.
DC, like Yoel, are freaks of nature. That being said, if they got into MMA at 20 and bypassed the Olympic experience, they would have accomplished way more in the sport -- I think that is pretty much closed for debate, no? If JBJ went the wrestling route, then transitioned to MMA in his 30's, he too would have been successful but would have not been the fighter he is today.
These people seem to think your average 47 year old dude is still in his athletic prime as long as he sat on his ass his whole life. Damage or not it doesn't work that way.
It's hard to say whether DC or Yoel would've been so much better though. It would certainly seem to be the case but it also appears that athletic specimens peak a lot earlier (GSP, Jones, and Aldo all won or challenged for the title at 23 years old) while more finesse based fighters who don't have that overwhelming strength and speed naturally peak a bit later (Anderson, Conor somewhat).
DC and Yoel certainly would have had a longer reign at/near the top, no doubt.
