Interestingly enough he's off duty working as private security at Walmart, so when he wants to make an arrest he can put his cop hat on and do so.

In all fairness, Walmart does stock some of the freshest tomatoes.

In all seriousness, that copper needs to be terminated by Walmart AND his PD.

Assuming he wasn't on duty while he did this as a police officer that should leave him personally liable, and not the city.

At least in this day in age, it's all on camera, so justice may actually be served.

Am I the only person in the world who thinks that when a cop has an asp/baton out and gives you a verbal command that you should immediately and with speed follow that order? It's not like he was going to get away from the cop... did the guy really have to wait until the cop hit him 7+ times before he realized he was needed to comply?

I know people think it's just about a tomato, but cops expect you to comply with their lawful order of "get down" or "hand behind your back." Even the "victim" here states that the cop issued him a verbal order and the video clearly shows a verbal interaction before the cop starts hitting him. If the guy had done as he was lawfully ordered in the first place nothing would have happened.

Nah - he was wearing his uniform. That carries the weight and authority of the state.

He should also be sent to prison.

I agree, but he wont be. He gave the guy an order to get on the ground which never happened. That's resisting arrest, so he was entitled to beat him unfortunately. Even though it is legal to resist and unlawful arrest.

I think there's an element of confusion when you've done nothing wrong. One minute you're walking out of the store to eat your tomato, and the next thing you know you're being yelled at for no discernible reason.

should the title be black cop beats black innocent man over a tomato or is that only reserved for white police officers ?

Yea I have no sympathy for people that resist and cause further escalation in events because of this. Innocent or not use common sense.

That guy had it coming. Buying one tomato...

No, but so far you're the only one that can watch an innocent man get his ass beat and try to rationalize a way to blame him for it

LOL - No. He wasn't 'entitled to beat him'. That's insane.

He wasn't being arrested or detained. This man will end up paid from this.

Is he really a cop though, or a fuckin Walmart security guard?

I often wonder... does being a policeman turns you into a psycho with self-esteem and inferiority complex issues? or does the jobs attracts people like that?
kinda like with catholic priests...

1. Of course not all cops are jerks.
2. Of course there are many thousands of great priests, fine examples.
Your points are the undeveloped thoughts of a child.
