I knew he was going to get screwed out of the MVP this year because it would be his 3rd in a row. It was like Jordan not winning more because voters want to vote for someone new. One year Jordan lost to Malone which to this day is a travesty.Great take.
It's an indefensible article for the precise reason it attempts to defend the same racism you're exhibiting in this thread. You are presumptively assigning a racist motive to those who praise him without any evidence his skin color is the basis for their praise. In other words, you assume that whites are racist by virtue of nothing other than being white. You can call his "Great White Hopeism" or "Great White Hypism"-- it doesn't make it any less racist.
Particularly so when you regard the statistical evidence I compiled above. I've followed advanced stats for over a quarter of a century in basketball, and I can never recall someone dominating the AIO advanced metrics across the board as much as Jokic has the past several years. Not even Lebron. For Kendrick Perkins to suggest his skin color is the primary reason he was being touted for a third straight MVP is absurd. Perhaps nobody has ever had as strong a candidacy backed by objective data rather than subjective opinion or analysis.
Furthermore, what top analyst has already deemed Jokic the GOAT center? A few fans online pre-emptively touting an athlete as the GOAT of his sport after winning a championship is as common as Monday. It happens in every sport, every year, and irrespective of skin color. Where is the author's evidence that Jokic has prematurely won undue esteem from pundits? Where is the ESPN roundtable poll ranking all-time centers with Jokic on top? Where is the Bill Simmons list? Where is the NBA official Greatest 50 list? No, instead, what is the only concrete piece of data the author cites? The fact sports media is ~82% white and male. None proving they are committing the crime he is alleging. Only the crime of being white.
He is imagining this offense, then crying racism at his imagined transgression. Ironically, he's the only racist in the room.
Save the GOAT talk for when he is done, but he is definitely the best player in the NBA right now.
Love watching him play.
