<<Console Wars>> PS5 vs. XSX

I really don't get it honestly. I don't understand why they have people wasting their time on FPS boost. If it takes like 2 people I guess but it just seems like that time would be better spent on helping the other teams get their games out quicker. The only semi interesting game they've had come out is The Medium.

Sony is about to release it's fourth title that I'm interested in getting. Demon Souls, Miles Morales, Returnal and now Ratchet and Clank. I didn't enjoy the last Ratchet and Clank but this one looks really good.

Indeed.

Haven't finished Demon's Soul yet. Having a blast playing Returnal. Haven't even touched Miles Morales but I will. Had to beat Spider-Man first and i want to finish the DLCs first before tackling that.

I looked through that giant list of FPS boost games.. The only games I'd be interested in playing are Yakuza 6 and The Evil Within 2. The rest are meh.. old or past the time for me to care..

Not only that but Madmick's list is incorrect for PS5.

This website has a bunch of volunteers testing PS5 games on PS5.

940 Games Tested so far:
40 games have received official updates for the PS5.
528 games are confirmed to run on an upgraded locked 60 FPS (90 with HDR).
27 games are reported to have Backwards Compatibility Issues (most of the are graphical glitches. Probably around 5 are considered unplayable from my quick checks out of curiosity)
Note: Pretty sure all the other games received a more stable 30 FPS locked framerate due to their coding limitation.

Tons of PS4 games can be played at a boosted locked 60fps. We just too busy playing new games. LOL.

EDIT: We are actually getting the best of both worlds. Volunteers are testing PS4 games on PS5 and reporting whether it works on PS5 with boosted features or not and we are getting brand new PS5 games in the meanwhile.

PS5 >>>>>> XBOX X/S!!!!

Artificial, automated framerate interpolation/doubling or unlocked modes is not analogous to FPS boost. The former is like emulated games that either artificially multiply the base rendered frames for output, or that unlocks the framerate without respect for the fact the game was developed with a lower framerate target without touchup. The latter results in weird effects like crowds in the background of sports game shaking their pom-poms at superhuman speeds. That's for those games which are fps stable. There are other potential issues such as crashes or degraded visuals. Perhaps the chief difference is the lack of official developer and/or Microsoft/Sony review of the mode. This requires a patch of the game.

There is already 926 games on the Xbox One Enhanced list with well over a hundred of these boasting a 60fps mode (in addition to 4K and HDR enhancements). These enhancements carry over to the XSX/XSS automatically. This is more appropriately compared to the PS4 Pro Boost list instead which is what you're seeing unofficially verified on that website.

Consider the above is also separate from (and inferior to) the comparison of the Smart Delivery vs. PS5 Upgrade lists of truly optimized games for the new consoles which I last compared in October 2020. The total count of upgraded games was 57 for the XSX/XSS versus 27 for the PS5 at the time.

The claim that HDR improves the framerate piqued my curiosity because typically the opposite is true. I couldn't find anything to substantiate that claim, and only a single game on the linked website boasts a locked 90fps framerate (e.g. Blood and Truth) with only one other listed as offering 60fps-90fps (e.g. Rad Rodgers).

My sources for the PS5 (linked in that post itself) were updated on April 6th and April 26th, respectively.

Most of us don't really give a shit about how the boost is done.

Can I play these PS4 games at 60FPS? yes? That's good enough for me. They're all previous gen games. Only you care so much about this feature and are crazy gaga over playing older gen games on a new console.

Most of us are looking ahead towards new games.

I barely have time to play the new games. The only reason I would play an older game is its an oldie I already own or I want to play a game that precedes a newer game (like RE7 for RE Village). Those instances are so rare these days I may as well not even bother.

We're playing new games whereas you're cheering about old games. LOL

All about the semantics and looking under every pebble for a victory. People want to play insane shit they couldn’t play on their old console when they invest in a new one. PS5 is delivering that. XSX might in a couple of years.

Really disappointed in Sony. Giving us new, next gen titles and developing new IP’s? Fuck do they think this is, some kind of next gen console? We want old games at higher resolutions/frame rates and we want them now. Thank god for Microsoft.
You're telling me PS5 can't play 15 Lego and Plants v Zombies games at 60 FPS? Well that's a deal breaker for me. Sony is in the mud.

Imagine paying at least 50% above retail for an XB4 so you can play “upgraded” games that came out 8 years ago. <Lmaoo>

Jesus... Some of the posts in this thread :D Both of these consoles will be fun if you like to play video games. PS5 has the better exclusives, but XSX has the better gaming service in Game Pass. While Xbox has the better hardware I don't think it's going to be all that noticeable when everything comes out in the wash. Playstation also has Virtual Reality.

I'm still not quite sure which one I'm going to get. I've been rocking Xbox since around 2008 when I got a 360, so I have a huge game library, but I also have a One X and I honestly don't really notice frame rate as long as it doesn't drop below 30fps.

What intrigues me about PS5 is the VR option and that they are coming out with an upgraded headset soon. I have a Quest 2, but I'm sure the PS5 VR is going to blow it out of the water. I could also play some of the exclusives from last gen that I missed out on. What sucks though is that they aren't upscaling any of their PS4 games from the last gen like Xbox is doing.

At least they are upscaling their games. I haven't owned a Playstation product since the PS2 and it would be cool to play some of the Sony exclusives that I missed out on with enhanced graphics. From what I've read all of their PS4 games that are on Playstation Now are running the same way they did on the old hardware.

I can't see paying 50% above the retail for either of these systems. They will eventually be available and it's not like I don't have any video games to play in the interim.

Some of them have been upgraded but not many. The only one I want them to upgrade is Bloodborne the rest already look amazing and I don't need them wasting their time with games I've already played.

Their games are upscaled though. Both GOW and GOT are at locked 60 FPS instead of 30. And their exclusives are actually exclusive.
Regardless, the PS5 has had a killer app since day one.

I thought I read that they weren't doing it for the Playstation Now titles though. This is more what I was referring to as this would give Xbox the advantage when it comes to their subscription service.

The PS5 at least has a few original games, but system launches are getting more and more pathetic. Could you imagine if back in the day, the N64 launched with no games, and it's biggest feature was getting to play slightly better looking Super Nintendo games on it. Yeah, goodnight Nintendo. I don't know what happened to the rule that you launch a system with a decent chunk of new games to play on it. Here we are in 2021 talking about frame rates for Xbox 360 games being a selling point for a $500 machine. Ummm, what?

At least the PS5 has a killer app right now though (and it’s not on PC). Plus Ratchet & Clank coming out next month.

I mean Microsoft now has 23 first party studios (most in the industry) .. at some point, they'll be struggling to fit everything into each year. <Lmaoo>
Hellblade 2 in particular, I suspect will be a insane visual showcase.

There's a decent chance they get Forza, Halo and Starfield out by the end of the year, according to various journalists (and barring covid delays).. that would be a good slate.

I think it's the technology starting to bottle neck. It's like comparing the Neo Geo to the SNES. Sure the Neo Geo is better graphically, but it's not really that huge and it doesn't really have that many games.

Right so potentially several years off until any of this starts bearing real fruit.

Which app are you referring to? And what are the benefits? I've been trying to read up a bit here and there about these next gen systems, but the articles and videos tend to be all over the place.

Yes if they can get those games out by the end of the year it will be very good for them. Will see if it actually happens though. Starfield is something they want to release this year but I doubt it happens. Forza and Halo I see coming out this year though.

I think he's talking about the games that have come out for the PS5 already.
