<<Console Wars>> PS5 vs. XSX

You might be giving Sony a little too much credit here. The cpu and gpu are coming from AMD. They’re pretty comparable to amd parts that are on the market. You get a much better deal on the PS5 for two reasons; economies of scale and the fact that Sony and MS are willing to eat some losses on the hardware in order to profit on the sales and subscriptions.

It ends up being a great bargain for the consumer. But it’s not because Mark Cerny is a wizard that can pull of something Nvidia can’t figure out
Again, its just not the CPU/GPU that make the PS5 what it is. Sony/AMD had actually worked together to customise the CPU to fit the needs of the Sony, so much so that the what the research yielded will be shown in the Ryzen 3 chips. Some of those features that will be in the Ryzen 3 chips are now on the Sony AMD CPUs.

That coupled with how the SSD is integrated, and a bunch more technical jargon you can find in the Mark Cerny talk, has allowed the PS5 to outperform a console thats 3O% more powerful on paper, right out of the gate.

Dunno how you can credit the AMD team with that since the XSX is basically using a similar CPU and GPU from AMD.

It makes sense. Xbox just reiterated, PS tried to rebuild for the next gen.

I imagine it will mean the ps5 ceiling is higher as companies optimise for the architecture but that will be later in the cycle.
Uh, no. The PS5 and XSX are using identical architecture. The XSX's is just significantly more powerful.

Ignorant console gamers in this thread to spout ab inaccurate myth ITT that the PS5 is outperforming the XSX due to a Nov. 26 headline resulting from surprising results in three games (one which has reversed and is now in the XSX's column). If weighing the preponderance of results, the contrary is true.

Imagine being significantly more powerful and barely keeping up with inferior hardware.

How embarrassing.

The SSDs engineering is all Sony. Of course it’s not the revolution some of the wanker fanboys claimed it would be pre release.

Yes I do think the engineering on the gpu and cpu is basically all to AMD credit. AMD had been ripping up intel the last couple of years. Things have change of their. They got a new CEO and she came in and filled the room with uppercuts. It’s been very exciting times for hardware enthusiasts, since most of the last decade has been a one sided beating by intel.

I’m sure their contract with Sony helped in some ways with their r&d. But yeah no, this machine is an amd build. Sony didn’t hire a whole team of hardware engineers to develop a cpu line up for amd, choose the middle of the pack cpu from the line up, and then let AMD run off and sell all their hard work. They contracted a company that has the capability of producing what they wanted

Not only does the Xbox run the most anticipated and important title of the year better than the PS5
Maybe I missed something, but I thought the PS5 runs it at 60fps with a higher resolution than the Xbox version. The Xbox just has a higher res 30fps option that the PS5 omitted.

basically. Series X versions caps out at 1080p with performance mode. PS5 hits 1144p most of the time. Series X has more random NPCs and such but at a lower res.

Is a bit odd that the PS5 doesn’t have a 30 FPS mode but that might been because they simply ran out of time to implement it. It’s not as if the PS5 can’t do it. With all the bugs they have on all the platforms they really should held back the launch. Money was more important in the end though - as it always is...

They should have released the PC version and held the rest back. It seems to be the only one working well. I’ve put in 12 hours with minimal bugs and it looks amazing.

Although series x I have heard works great also in performance mode.

They had a deal with Microsoft, they had to give some bells and whistles to them....

PS5 version is the PS4 pro version uncapped.

Nothing really related just thought I would share.

yeah we are comparing backwards compatible games that were built for the last gen with minimal optimization for the next gen. Nothing really to brag about. Let’s wait for the next gen update and then we can resume the shit talking in earnest..

Skyrim and Fallout 4 can be modded to run at 60fps on Xbox Series X
But what about PS5 and Series S?
Word emerged last week that with a simple mod, owners of the Xbox Series X console were able to revisit The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and to play it at full 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The evidence looked compelling and I wanted to try it out - and once confirmed, I had a whole bunch of further questions I wanted answers to. Would the mod work on Xbox Series S? What about PlayStation 5? And as Fallout 4 also supports mods on consoles, I had to wonder whether there was any way to run the game at 60fps there, ahead of Microsoft's official patch set to do the same thing?

The outlook is transformed on Series X thanks to the console's backwards compatibility features. First of all, it's worth stressing that once installed, Skyrim needs to be shut down and rebooted for the mod to kick in - and the improvement is transformative. Most of the game plays out locked at 60fps and the tearing brought about by the mod is completely gone. In effect, the Uncap FPS mod removes the 30fps limit, while the back-compat features in Series X enforce v-sync, giving a mostly flawless presentation.

PlayStation 5? Well, I did try it. Mods are available, but there is no frame-rate mod that I could find that could do the same job as Uncap FPS on Xbox machines. What you do get is a much tighter lock to 30 frames per second than the PlayStation 4 version of the game, but it is unclear as to whether a frame-rate unlock mod is even possible on the Sony platform. Generally speaking, it's understood that mod support is somewhat more limited, but if the opportunity is there, hopefully showcasing how transformative Uncap FPS is will see a mod arrive.
XSX & XSS handle more like a PC with their flexibility and adaptability.

If there’s a random bump, best believe it’s an @Madmick BC moral victory.

Another erasure, and the advantage continues to tip in the XSX's favor:
Dirt 5 Performance Mode On Xbox Series X Now Runs As Well As PS5
Dirt 5 has received its biggest patch yet, which fixes the Xbox Series X 120fps geometry bug, polishes up Quality mode on all platforms, adds additional racing wheel support and some new wintery items for the track designer, and more! Get the full lowdown on Dirt 5 ver. 2.0, below.

Some comparisons between the two. In their respective performance modes, the PS5 runs smoother at 60 FPS. They removed the quality mode for the PS5 though and the Series X can play at 4K at 30 FPS.

Wish I had this on my PS4 (it came bundled with my One X) because I’d love to give it another go on NG+ with the performance enhancements.

The next-gen update has arrived for Fallen Order. XSX is the only console that gets two modes, and the only with a DRS that goes up to 4K. PS5 is locked at 1200p.

You guys kaine in here?
You been too busy slaying dragons and dames to stop by the Arcade more? What you been up to, brother?

And DF still says that it runs best on PS5. Shame.
