<<Console Wars>> PS5 vs. XSX

You been too busy slaying dragons and dames to stop by the Arcade more? What you been up to, brother?

Ah not a whole lot. Just been working and playing the ps5. Just beat DMC5 yesterday. Really fun game. Last one I beat was back around 2009ish. I highly recommend it. The ps5 does wonders with it

And DF still says that it runs best on PS5. Shame.
No.

He says, subjectively, he thinks the PS5 60fps version seemed to run a "bit smoother", but he has no data or analysis on that, and of course, it's running an inferior version. The XSS also runs a bit smoother by this metric.

Yup, no one is going to exchange dropped frames for a slight increase in resolution in these types of games.

Not to mention the Series X drops to 1080p at times to try and maintain. 1200p/more stable FPS>dynamic resolution and frame drops.

No. The Xbox Series X is running the superior version of this game, hands down. IGN did a technical analysis of this game separately:

As he mentions, it maintains a 1440p count at every single frame he analyzed. It also points out that further patches for the XSX will bring a DRS scaling up to 4K@60fps when possible. It also mentions zero technically measured drops for the XSX in this mode, while it notes there are a few drops for the XSS, and of course, DF offered no technical analysis on this, when in the past they've been very specific, so IGN's assessment is the most reliable, here. The XSX runs just as smoothly as the PS5 at a higher framerate. it's superior.

Furthermore, the most impressive technical version of this game is the 4K native@30fps locked version on the XSX, objectively. That is a 57% superior rendering performance (i.e. more total pixels) to the PS5's version.
Jedi: Fallen Order patch works better on Xbox Series X than PS5

watching that video, the series x has stuttering that i've never even seen on my ps4 slim

both new systems seem fine during gameplay but those cutscenes on xsx are pretty bad

No, it doesn’t run just as smoothly. No one is playing these types of games at 30 FPS lol.

It’s all about stability.

Going from 1200p to 1440p isn’t offering much of anything. But maintaining closer to a stable 60 FPS sure is.

When are they going to get serious and release a bunch of these consoles? This is absurd. I'm not paying some cunt flipper $900 for a series X either.

You'd think they'd plan better than this.

The initial rush will die down soon enough. I figure this IS the plan though, and they don't go nuts with production, because it's a bit of testing phase and they don't want to recall a fuck ton of broken consoles if unforeseen problems arise.

That’s a good question and one that is hard to answer. For sure both consoles were rushed out the door to make it in time for the holidays. There has also been supply constraints do to COVID and on some of the components that actually go into the consoles. To make matters worse demand is at an unprecedented level for all these cool new things.

Basically all cool new tech in the computer world has been this way. Hell, Nvidia released its cards over 5 months ago now I believe and you still can’t grab one at retail. What’s worse is that I read an article from them where they said they don’t expect the issue to resolve until April.

The bots/scalpers honestly disgust me. This is the worst case of scalping I’ve ever witness personally. I encourage everyone to refrain from buying off a scalper. I hope they get stuck with hardware they can’t offload.

Funny, console gamers have insisted for the past 15 years 60fps didn't matter, and gamed at that framerate.

No, the XSX doesn't run less smoothly. More detailed analysis shows this.

1440p is offering 44% more pixels. That's because as these developers hone in that superior processing power obviously makes these increases possible.

Yeah, I guess that's the plus side to waiting, if any problems come up with the initial builds, the dopes that spent double on the console will have to deal with the fallout.

Yawn, I’ll take the version that plays at a more stable 60 FPS and doesn’t have to drop to 1080p to do so.

Mick running in here thinking he had a massive dub for the BC machine.

There is not much that Sony or Microsoft can do unfortunately. TSMC the semiconductor that manufacturers the wafers for AMD's chips is stretched thin due to production capacity. In addition to this, they've got orders to fulfill for Apple as well so you can see the strain these puts on their fabrication capacity. Add the global pandemic and it's all fucked. Then AMD has to allocate those wafers for the processor chips (CPUs and graphics cards), custom chips for each console etc and its even more fucked. It will stabilise but it will take time. I've ordered a new graphics card and have no idea when the ETA is lol.

I'm probably getting some details wrong but that's the gist of it.

Well I put in an order today for a Series X directly from Microsoft’s Canadian website as they went back in stock this afternoon. As I already have a PS5, on a go forward basis I will just wait for reviews to see which version of games are better on each platform. Of course there’s also the consideration of what games will be on Gamepass and which will be console exclusives etc.

In any event, the way I see it I don’t need to worry about the console wars this generation as I’ll just have both.
