International Conor withdraws Irish presidential bid

How tightly wound are you? It feels like you've been sitting in the dark just waiting for any subject about Ireland to come up so you can prance and preen about the forum holding a bullhorn to lecture everyone in the hopes everyone will suddenly care what you have to say about something.

I didn't say anything about Irish politics. I don't care about your politics. My comments were generalized, and rooted in political culture across the developed world. It's not about mere reputation. Do you believe Conor is perceived as some saintly figure over here Stateside? LOL.

Hell, it possible it wasn't even his family that dissuaded him. Once things got real, he might have gotten sat down with a suit who knows how the sauce is made. Someone like that could put the fear of God in Conor telling him exactly what he could expect if he went through with his campaign, and the potential consequences. I don't know. Neither do you. None of us do. It's all speculation. Understand? You know fuck-all about why Conor made the decision he made. So spare me your "I'm Irish! Pay attention to meeeeeeeeeeee!!!" jig, you knob.
He didn't know how the nomination system worked and then caved after his petition to skip the process completely bombed.

He probably got in trouble again and its going to be made public soon.

You mean like the two "neighbours" of Nikita Hands who he was going to produce at his rape appeal. The two star witnesses, that had made statements that they had seen her boyfiend beat her on that night ?

Yeah, people are wondering how they manged to see this alledged assault from their window, when they weren't actually living there at the time and had only moved in a few years ago. Maybe there's some kind of time portal on the street ? Why ewould anyone make such up such a thing ?

Answers in a brown envelope, please.

Btw Conor graduated from an Irish speaking school and doesn't speak a word of Irish. Wtf is up with that?

There are but you need to stick your head out of the basement and realise Ireland is nothing like the US.

We're not in the habit of voting for coked-up, right wing, rapists. He didn't drop out to protect his reputation or for fear of political assassination. He dropped out beause the general public hate him and his chances of being elected were zero.

I like the wee president guy you guys have, with the hair only on the sides. He looks like Ganthet, a character from comics I read as a kid

Don't mess with Miggeldy, he's a stateman but he won't be long about putting anyone in their place.

Attended a Gaelscoil but I'm doubtful he ever gaduated.

Then again we also have another nominee for President, in Heather Humphrey's who was Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht. (The Gaeltacht are Irish speaking regions in the country). It's now come to light post nomination that she doesn't speak Irish and never bothered to try and learn it during her tenure.

Not really damning tho, unlike the fact that her husband is in the Orange Order and they used to attend marches and bonfires in the north. There are also reports she was involved in the stupid idea of trying to commemorate the RIC last year. So there goes her chances too.

Conspiracy? You're condescending while using words without even knowing what they mean.

I didn't speak of any conspiracy. I speculated, in reaction to a post opining that his family talked him out of it, that if they did talk him out of it, it would be more likely to avoid the scrutiny and harassment being a political figure provokes. This isn't about mere reputation. It's about skeletons in the closet. It's could be about family secrets. It could be about financial history. Nowhere did I justify his past misconduct, portray him as a victim, portray him as someone of conscience or shame, or portray him as politically competent-- much less astute.

You are hyperventilating over the most innocuous, casual speculation into motive.

He needed ~20 nominations from Parliament members to get on the ticket. Sky News queried 143 with all 143 saying no. Want a laugh, go look at some of their public statements about nominating Conor. Heres just one:
Mcgregor has become the cheerleader for misogyny in Ireland...a populist buffoon

Then you have the fact that the Conor doesnt even know what the President role of Ireland fulfills. Its a ceremonial position. All policy is set by the Prime Minister, and the actions of the President is dictated by Parliament.

Excluding all that. Even if Conor did somehow get nominated. 89% of Ireland voters said they were firmly against his Presidential nomination in April of this year. Where only 1.3% of Ireland voters voted for similar far right candidates in their last election.

Dustin the Turkey is apparently running ... Again.

Say what you want about McGregor as a fighter & a person and chances are I'll agree with alot of it.

But one thing you can't say about him is he's not passionate about Ireland.

Would have been interesting to see him run.

That was quick

@HI SCOTT NEWMAN 🐈
No chance of Colin becoming president

Just seen that this is in the war room haha not a place for me, I'm making a rather hasty retreat as we speak!

"Mr. Conor!....Mr. McGregor...err...Sir! You've cleared the first hurdle in becoming a Presidential candidate! We should start preparing you for your official campaign!"

*The sound of bottles clanging as Conor McGregor slowly peaks out from under his covers*

"You wot mate? No. Slag off ya fookin' munchkin!"

And that was the end of Conor McGregor's Presidential run.

To be honest I'd imagine he's pretty immune to that as he's already got so much dirty laundry that's been aired in public and he doesn't seem ashamed of any of it.
Spot on. His take is absolutely horrible.

<suzylol>

The sheer stupidity required to believe Conor.

Everyone in ireland is laughing at this guy.

He thought he could pull the donald and use morons from social media to lie about politics.

He never secured his slot, hence this shit.

Dude's a rich goof.

LOL @ the excuses. Not man enough to say "I'm dropping out because there doesn't appear to be enough support".....instead some bs about difficulty navigating the bureaucracy.

Conor got into this bs as a PR stunt, which is 99% of what he does. When it was really time to sit down and put tire to road he realized he really doesn't have the motivation or aspiration for that lifestyle or responsibility. Just jibber jabber on social media for another day in the headlines.
