Conor never should have left 145 pounds

Those cuts were hard. He looked awful every time. Not sure he could maintain that. He's a medium sized LW in reality

What facts? The Holloway Conor beat barely squeaked by Leonard fucking Garcia. You think Conor beating that version of Holloway actually means something? Michael Johnson beat Tony too. Sure means a lot today by your logic. I like how you keep coming back with more of your one sentence opinions. I'm wasting my time writing paragraphs here.
You probably were one of those who claimed Max will smoke Dustin in the rematch? Because how much he’s improved.
Sherdog is weird.
A 28 year old Tony with 15 fights and 3 wins in UFC is not yet in his prime, but a 36 year old Tony with 28 fights, 12 years as pro and blown out knee is a prime machine? Tony has had a shitload of wars, mileage, injuries, wear and tear.
What about Pride? Fedor, CroCop and Nog? Why were they horrible at this point? Athletic prime and shit.

You missed my point and don't make assumptions. Dustin improved and so did Max but he had no experience at 155 and still put up a good fight. No one gives Chonan credit for beating Anderson for a reason. Just like Struve beating Stipe doesn't matter today if they were to fight again. Look at where Johnson is now compared to Tony. Should Duffy get credit for beating Conor too? Maybe at the time but now it really doesn't mean much. Just like Conor beating that version of Max really means nothing if they fought again.

Betting odds are reflective of public perception. You can see how the odds shift based on the money coming in. If a lot of people bet on Brimmage as the underdog then the odds should have shifted to him becoming the favorite or at least a smaller underdog. Conor started off as the favorite and ended up as the favorite so not much changed. Bro I gave you bestfightodds. Look at it yourself. It was close. Maybe 1.5:1 favorite for Conor.

Oh, ok then.

what is IV ?
IV stands for intravenous. Before USADA, when fighters needed to rehydrate after a weight cut, they could do it by receiving intravenous fluids. Use of IVs are banned now, so a fighter has to rehydrate solely by drinking fluids. This can make it tough to fully rehydrate in time for the fight if you are a fighter that cut a lot of weight (like Conor did when he had to make 145 lbs).

Oh thanks. Why would they ban something like that?

IVs are banned both by WADA and USADA, because they can be used to mask other substances. An athlete could (in theory) use them to be able to beat a piss test by rapidly hydrating themselves to dilute the sample. Apparently you can also administer certain PED-type substances by IV and they’ll leave the body sooner and not be detected on a PED test. Here’s USADA’s explanation if you’re interested.

If he could have made 145 without being near death he would have. ....... he wants to fight at 170 to have zero weight cut.

Are you new to combat sports? Serious question, not trolling, its the normal progression as fighters, its kind of odd how MMA guys fight at their lowest possible weight and somehow manage to stick to it for their whole career, but its not a good thing, the body ages and weight cut is not easier with age, the also "grow" some how, when starting young, a guy in his 30's isnt going to grow, but the weight cut is getting harder, now Conor, he was planning on leaving 145, he was young and was still able to make the cut, but it was hard on him, his coach told this on Joe Rogan podcast, they were moving to 155 but the UFC offered 145...it was clear on how bad Conor looked on weight cuts, he performed, but it was clearly hard on him.

Fighters don’t care about goat status.

They’re not going to retire broke so obsessed fans can dream about perfect records.
This. Being respected by a few ultra hardcore fans versus having the millions...I think most would choose the big money.

He fought at 55 prior to coming to the UFC. His previous fight before joining the UFC was at 55. I think I recall hearing the UFC wanted him to come in at 45. But that cut was ridiculous.
He looked ok in his first 4 or 5 weight cuts, it was only he last 2 or 3 that it was getting tougher.

He timed it perfectly to be fair, was able to make weight just long enough to get the strap.

Taking away the 2-div gold goal, as a fan he should've been a LW right away. Better fighters, better match-ups (and the years of time to compete in those), the right weight class for his size and no Machinist weight cuts. The FW belt was more of a weight cutting championship than showing skills. There's a reason why Mendes "hit like a Flyweight".

yeah, how about no?

He reminds me a little of BJ Penn.
held the title in one weight class, moved up and beat the champ who just destroyed a dominant champ. then bounced around weight classes taking fights against opponents much bigger than him.

If he goes back he has a shot at being an all time great, but if he stays at 170 he’ll end up as bj penn.

Once IVs went away, I just don’t think he could make that cut well and perform at that weight. He was great at FW, at 155 some of those advantages disappear. Would never be the MMA GOAT though, that spot is already taken.
