I know it is required in school, but the things I have read say that the schools do a shitty job of teaching it.. Which is kinda proven given that you have kids studying it for Years, and yet they are not fluent in it? From beginning to final graduation they study it, yet are not fluent.. That is a systemic problem..

By IRISH I guess you mean Gaeilge.......which is a second language in Ireland as they all speak English. A lot of Irish don't speak Gaeilge.

They spend the same amount of time studying english and math, they are the 3 required subjects. It's an extremely hard language to adjust too, considering its an 18 letter alphabet and its pronounced differently and there's variations of it, depending which part of Ireland you're from.

Just try figuring out the names and see how far you get.

I actually have a friend who is fluent in welsh and nearly there in Irish so, if I have name/word questions I give it to him. I was shocked that they don't have Z! Holy shit! That is like Russian and their backwards R.

But you proved my point. If Ireland was serious about teaching it, 1 hour a day, is not enough to learn it. It is not enough to learn any language.. I had the same issue with German, that and I was bored with it and didn't give a shit.. Do now though.

People should be proud of their ancestors ,family.....
And should be capable of speaking their own language , not just capable but be proud when speak it
