You know, people can get black belts without even ever training MMA, let alone fight in MMA, let alone have a whole MMA career... They are two very separate things.

Yeah I know that, im not sure if you're saying this to me seriously.
I know how this shit works brother.

Did you know that theres a ton of black belts out there that haven't actually earned it.

Let's get a black belt in here to confirm @Nathan LaMontagne

Mcgregor is a black belt but he isn't a competition level grappler. I can see him being competitive with a regular black belt at the gym or even most black belts that compete in MMA. Not every black belt is going to be Jacare or Maia.

That last sentence is again a shining light in your statement sir.
Those guys earned their belts the way I believe people should.

Gotta keep the publicity on his McDojo. Cavanaugh gonna have all kinds of chavs lining up to pay to train there so they can be like Canor.

This is completely true. If you've got two high level grapplers fighting, it's completely possible one gets a submission win. Doesn't discount the other fighter's skills.

But Conor has never shown anything approaching that level of skill. Ever. It's not even that he's been submitted, it's how quick he is to offer his back and basically just gives up the RNC and then taps out immediately.

Horrible look for a "black belt"

Even McDojos produce halfway decent grapplers. Kavanagh is just selling a black belt at this point.
You say that like that has happened 100 times or something. He’s been submitting twice in the UFC. Once by a guy that has the 3rd most submissions in the ufc, and another time to a ground expert who some consider one of the best fighters ever.

It’s hilarious to even suggest Kavanagh is selling black belts. Conor has been a brown belt at least since his fight with Chad Mendes. That was 8 years ago! Some people go from white belt to black belt in less time.

Tony Ferguson just got submitted by a guy who has been a brawler his whole career, but I don’t see anyone questioning his black belt. The salt some of you have for this guy is truly unreal.

From irish edmund lol… it’s like getting a degree from Devry.

Given the amount of people who have black belts these days, it's watered down and almost meaningless to have one.

Go win a BJJ championship against top tier competitors from around the world and then we can judge just how good your BJJ is.

He isn't a high level black belt by any means, but I see no problem with this.

He was purple belt pre covid. SBG guys used to be invited to roll at Marcelo Garcia's on occasion
Maybe for Marcelo Garcia he is a purple belt, but he’s been a brown belt under Kavanagh since 2014.

Its years ago since he attended ( I haven't rolled post covid, kids arrived) but i was pretty sure he had a purple with brown stripes back then

Stand corrected, there's an image of him getting awarded it post Poirier 1. He must have been rolling with our purples

Guys acting like black belts are handed out like candy just because a black belt isn't a world champ or dominating mundials is a bit ignorant.

Most average guys will increase their proficiency over time and go up the grades. Same as every traditional martial art.

Unicorns that get belted every year is a different story entirely (or Nicky Rod nearly winning ADCC as a blue belt)

Conor's fair game when it comes to "fighter bashing."

And I don't mind it.

But should be applied to every fighter!

Sure, I think he behaves like a d-bag and I enjoy watching him get humbled inside the cage...but that has nothing to do with whether or not he deserves his BJJ bb...and certainly doesn't put any of us in a position to claim he does NOT deserve it.

If I buy a black belt on eBay, will you congratulate me, too?

Since, you know, it'll be just as legitimate as Conor's

When you get yours from a 4th degree bb, and have the public endorsement of someone who is at or near the top of every BJJ GOAT discussion, maybe we can talk.

All that typing and you have ZERO justification for Conor getting a black belt. What justifies it? Go on. Point to some black belt level grappling we've seen from him.

I'll wait.

When you inevitably give up and try to change the topic, just stop. Just move along. Defending this is laughable. Conor doesn't know you exist and isn't going to pay you.
